How much is ink

good compatible ink available?

Good price, hot. Shame it's not the 6350 or 7150 though as I'm after one of them.

Yep, they have a grey ink tank plus a wired ethernet connection among other things.
Depends if that's important to you or not. There's no doubting that the price for the 6450 is very good though.

thanks for clarifying - i just want it as an edible ink printer, so looks like the 6450 will do the job

From Which?

Although this Canon produces great-looking prints, colour office documents and photos, we can't make it a Best Buy due to its high ink running costs.
Pros: Great quality photos and colour office prints, automatic double-sided printing, wi-fi, quick text prints, good colour copies

Cons: High ink running costs

OK, but it's not just about the cost of the ink to begin with as other printers also work well with cheap compatibles. Whilst Which reviews are not the be-all-and-end-all, it is interesting how it potentially wastes ink if you print just occasionally:

What are the ink costs like?
Some printers clean their print heads if you only print occasionally. This uses ink that never reaches the paper.
This printer used 422% more ink when printing occasionally, compared with printing the same number of pages in one go.
This is a lot of extra ink used compared with other inkjet printers we've tested - as a result black text and colour printing costs are high.

Those inks you link to are also compatible with the MG5450 and MG6350, both Which best buys and they are reported to use about 120% more ink, although they are usually slightly more expensive. There are other printers that are reported as using as low as 40% extra (e.g. Pixma MX475 and has been similar price) or even 11% (Brother MFC-J870DW, but more expensive). It depends on what you're using it for and how - just thought some might like to know. Don't get me wrong, this is a good price and by all accounts a decent printer.

I'm just looking for a cheap to run printer; I don't really mind about the price of it.

Is this up to the job, or are there any other recommendations?

Great price - I have one - but so very, very, very slow - wireless mode takes even longer... the older models perform so much better
