sorry does this mean the paper and stick were in the box?

I've got the MX310 which is fine, but don't go thinking that home printing of photos is a worthwhile activity.

It has a decent scanner, ADF which is really useful and means you're not stuck there putting one page in after another and it has a fax, for those who are still in the 19th century and the rare instances where you want to avoid email. The printer is fine too for home printing.

I'm going to move on to a colour laser with scanner and fax, likely a Lexmark but that will be circa £200. For those with simpler needs, this will likely do very well.

Care to say why?

Seemed good advice until you mentioned choosing Lexmark and your credibility went down the toilet!

legal documents can be seny by fax, which is why football clubs use them on tranfser deadline day, according to bbc website. As well as solicitors.

I'm not a football club though, and I highly doubt you are.

cl-513 and pg-512 are better for this as they're higher capasity than cl-511 and pg-510. Still a rip off though

Frequently used by small business' for transferring documents quickly and in money transfers to different countries.

just wondering does anyone know if this print can just use black ink only? i use an epson at the moment and its horrible...i only print in black and it requires me to buy ALL the colours

Set of genuine ink cartridges for this costs around 31 quid but having said that I am happy with how it performs.
If you get cartridge set refilled you can get it done for about 11 quid.
Prints nice and fast and software is quite friendly.

If you just want to print in black, wouldn't you be better off getting a budget laser printer, unless you are doing arty B&W photo prints. Best getting one that's been hacked to allow the toner cartridges to be topped up and reused. Inkjets get through quite a bit of ink just doing cleaning cycles both when they're powered up and occassionally during/after prints.

I refill my MX310 with Asda ink for black and don't bother with the colour.

A lot of dross out there in budget land for nearly every make but I was surprised at a couple of deals on Lexmark where there was decent reviews and they came with 2000+ toners for b/w and full (1000/1500+ ?) toners for the colours at around £180. Auto duplex was one feature I wanted.

Sort of waiting for the MX310 top give up the ghost or finding someone who wants to take it off my hands as I don't just want to junk it.

I dont know why people hate lexmark.bought one 2 years ago wireless 4900.problem free printing.refilled 8 times with tesco ink.apart from a message that u have run out of ink still prints perfect.

I saw this on the Argos site a couple days ago. Couldn't figure out how you got the free paper and memory stick though. Suspect it was some offer they were going to run but changed their minds and just decided to price cut it instead.

Still seems a fairly good offer though.

Maybe best to edit the description to remove reference to the free stick and paper?

By the way, does anyone know if it can be used as a flatbed scanner, or does it just take scans through the feeder?

I meant can't see stick and paper mentioned on website. yes, they were in the box.

When you open the software (you can install an icon etc.) the MX310 asks whether you want to use the ADF or on the glass etc. You can also configure the default state and have it as a quick launch. Fax can be used through modem and with splitters etc.

Anyone know if this will copy without the computer turned on? And does it have a dedicated "Copy" button?

yes, you can copy or scan without computer turned on. and it has dedicated 'Copy' and 'Scan' butttons
