With a 12.1 MP sensor, you can capture every scene in incredible detail print up to A2 size, or crop to achieve the desired composition without losing the detail necessary for larger prints. A 4x optical zoom allows for a wide choice of framing options. Canons optical Image Stabilizer keeps images sharp by reducing the effects of camera shake throughout the zoom range. Smart Auto mode uses intelligent Scene Detection Technology to determine subject brightness, contrast, distance and overall hue. The camera then selects the most appropriate scene mode from a total of 18 to obtain perfect settings for the scene. Easy mode ensures correct camera usage by deactivating all buttons except those used for shooting. A suite of Face Detection technologies detects up to 35 faces in a shot, adjusting focus, exposure, flash settings and white balance for optimal results with natural-looking skin tones. Face Select & Track allows a single face in a crowd to be selected and tracked as the main subject. FaceSelf-Timer takes a shot when an extra face is detected in the frame making group photos easy. Motion Detection Technology uses a range of advanced methods to ascertain movement of both camera and subject, plus the speed at which this motion occurs. The optimum ISO is then automatically set for any situation. Face Detection Technology is used to accurately detect and remove the red-eye effect caused by flash photography. This function can be performed automatically by the camera or manually in playback. Canons DIGIC 4 processor drives responsive operation, superb image quality and colour reproduction. Advanced Noise Reduction ensures richly detailed, cleaner images, even at high ISO speeds. The bright 2.5 LCD allows easy viewing of images and video. Choose between LCD and the optical viewfinder (OVF) to frame shots.Compact and portable, the PowerShot A1100 IS is tactile, easy to use.

Nice little camera, at a great price !
I paid £120 just 3 months ago (which was the best price at the time)

Awesome price! I dont need it but I may buy it....

good find. considering the original rrp of £219, this is a bargain price. good alrounder non-nonsense camera with my favourite AA type batteries. (my firend recently visited dublin and run out of power on a trip, just went to the next corner shop and bought 2x AA batteries and had power for the whole journey, try to do that with propriator batteriy-powered cameras, like panny). Hot from me.

I love canon cameras, they never seem to take a bad shot!

I have a Canon A520 which is a good few years old now and is only 4MP(and cost a lot more at the time than this!)
I have been on the look out for an upgraded version at a decent price. This look like a good deal for me. Agree with previous post regarding batteries - I invested in a battery charger and some decent rechargables so that I have some ready whenever I need (but in an emergency you can always buy some standard AA's - although they dont last so long!) Heat added

Been looking for a Camera for my wife's christmas present.

Sorted.

thanks for this deal thats my wife sorted as well for xmas means she can put all her pics now on facebook

Thanks Ordered needed a new camera and this seems to tick all the right Boxes

:santa: :santa: :santa: :santa: :santa:

I have the A85 4MP which has given us 3-4 years good service, it is getting a wee bit narky now so this is very tempting :whistling:.... ach Its tooooo good to miss, I'm in

A good saving but this was £100 a month back and the price is always around that area

HOTTT!!!!
Great camera and a baragin at under half the SRP of £159 (forget the £219 claimed by Amazon).
canon.co.uk/For…asp
VERY tempted as my Lumix has recently packed up... hmmm...

Looking on Canon website the picture sizes this camera takes is:

(L) 4000 x 3000, (M1) 3264 x 2448, (M2) 2592 x 1944, (M3) 1600 x 1200, (S) 640 x 480, (W) 4000 x 2248.

Just wanted to check that (W) 4000 x 2248 is a 16:9 widescreen mode isnt it ?

Thanks Ditch

Can anyone recommend a nice case to fit this too?

You know what i really like about this camera...it has a viewfinder...so many cameras don't seem to bother and it's a struggle in sunny weather...nice find:thumbsup:

HOT! Best camera at this price, I was going to gt friends to bring me one over from the US - because that was this price there!

All of the Canon PowerShot series of cameras that take AA batteries are THE BEST value for money in terms of picture quality, and the manual picture settings you can play with if you want. I have had 4 different versions in last 5 years and all have perfomed brilliantly until they got smashed / nicked or lost!

I have one of these and paid £130 a while ago, it is just an awesome camera.
edit- it is slightly bigger than the normal ones but can still fit into a pocket.

Hi
Has anyone found a case to fit this camera yet?
great reviews
cheers

shame the video quality is so poor: 640 x 480, 30fps

nice one ordered , been looking for a new camera for a while this will do the trick at 80 notes heat added.

I'm guessing you meant to be ironic?

[email protected] is better than many - about as good as it gets without being HD; however there are comments on reviews about the microphone not being the best - picks up ambient sounds and not distant sounds...

Cracking price and hot deal

Same story for me. My 6 year old Canon A80 (4 MP) is feeling a bit old now - it's very chunky having to carry around 4 x AAs!
My 'problem' is being seduced by megapixels......... The A80 takes flawless pics every time, indoor and outdoor, and these can be blown up to 8 x10 without any lack of clarity.

Having said all that I bought a 10 MP Casio digicam yesterday - wish I had waited for this......

I think you're mistaken - the price was around £120 for a long time, though buyacamera do have it at £99 currently.

Edit: For the last couple of months the best price has been around £115 - see camerapricebuster.co.uk/pro…tml

I already commented on this that its a good deal although my initial thoughts afterwards were that I am a bit skint and maybe I should wait till after crimbo. However, after doing a bit of research on price and reviews for this camera I think it is too good an oppty to miss and have taken the plunge by ordering - thanks OP for lightening my wallet :x . Just kidding - well spotted:thumbsup:

These things will be going for peanuts after xmas.

You may be absolutely right and I suppose this is the "gamble" you take.
I remember a month or so back when there was a deal for the Powershot A480 at Argos for £59.99 and I missed out because I thought the price would stay down - it went back up to £119.99 :x and is still at £99.99 at Argos, and £78.99 at Amazon. At a quid more for the A1100 on Amazon I still think it is a good deal and doubt it will go much lower if at all after christmas. If after Christmas I see it lower then so be it but for now I feel I got a good deal.:santa:

As you know, sir, I beg to differ. Li-ion and Panny both superior! AAs OK for an ocassional use camera (or those who can't plan 5 minutes ahead), Li-ion a must for more regular use.

However, this isn't a bad camera, just a bit bulky because of the AA power, but on a deals site the key point is that AA powered cameras come without batteries or charger, therefore should be cheaper. Frankly, for a 'naked' camera this strikes me as still pretty expensive however good the performance may be.

4x optical a good feature, 12Mp unnecessary but as long as it hasn't adversely affected the quality that's fine.

Not voting on this one - just suggesting potential buyers think through the battery vs price issue and consider the bulk if they want to slip it into a pocket for a day out.

Hi, I did buy the one from UK seller , at the time it didn't show china, never really looked into it.

For some models of compact Canon camera, you can get free upgraded firmware that adds some features like being able to save RAW files and tools for stop motion and time lapse photography. chdk.wikia.com/wik…HDK

You save the firmware on an SD card - if you use a different SD card, then it uses the normal settings. However, so far, this isn't available for the A1100 chdk.wikia.com/wik…100

I'm so depressed, I paid £118 for this camera on Amazon last week for my Dads Christmas present, it took every penny I had.

Dosent amazon have a price promise?

If something gets reduced u get the diffrence back?

HERE YA GO

MoneySavingExpert.com Update Note: This post was originally written in January 2008. Amazon has since changed its policy. For more information please read the Amazon Changes Note.

What's this about?

Amazon has a hidden price promise that if you buy something and it drops in price within 30 days you can get the difference back. That means if you did any Christmas shopping there; you should check if the price has dropped in the sales, and if it has - claim the money back.

How do you get it back?

Amazon won't do this automatically, you'll need to go back and check the prices of the goods you've bought by logging into your account.

Simply visit your account and look at each invoice from the last thirty days and click on each item to view it's current price. Compare this to the price you paid and if there's a difference, copy down the order number and go to the 'Return and Refunds Contact Form' page to report it.

Step by step instructions
Log into your Amazon account
Click on 'view orders placed in the last 6 months'
Copy the Amazon.co.uk order number:
Click on the item to see if the price has dropped
Click on 'Help' followed by Contact Us, 'Customer Service'
Once you've found the right order click on Contact Amazon, copy in the order reference number and explain you'd like a refund as the price has dropped.

Check out Aspen of Hereford on ebay, they do some great Samsonite trekking and Tamrac bags £6 or less inc free del.

Have 2 Somsonite Premium Trekking (£4.99 and £5.99) bags and they are superb quality, much better than my expensive LowePro.

Unfortunately not - I'd just started playing with CHDK on my daughters A470 took some fun time lapse of a sunset but that was as far as I'd got with it before she lost the camera on a train :whistling:

I'm not sure what's happened with CHDK - possibly some of their more enthusiastic 'port' masters have left as there seem to be quite a few newer Canon with no CHDK port... (e.g. the A480, SX20 etc.)

Back up to £129.72 now - mine has been dispatched via City Link Great deal while it lasted.

As a regular on both Amazon and MSE can't think why I have missed this (aside from Alcohol).

You've probably saved me loads already ( I am going to check all my purchases right now!) and will do in time to come.

Thank you - and rep added - its the least I can do (well, its all I can do!)
