I think these have been at this price for a while - I paid that price about 6 months ago.

Nice, and AA batteries too.

Ok, but 'was £120' is pretty meaningless, as this was only when it first came out nearly two years ago, which is a long time for compact cameras. Still a pretty good camera, but competition has caught up and in quite a few cases surpassed it now, even at this price.

Good price. If you've only got £50 for a camera, get this.

not worth the price, better value cameras out there for the same price

Here's a couple:

Canon PowerShot A800 from Argos - very similar camera to the A495, but updated with a newer sensor - same price.

Nikon L24 from Jessops - much higher spec. camera: 14 Megapixels, larger higher resolution screen, sensor shift image stabilisation vs none on the A495, £49.95.

There's also several Fujis at or below the £50 mark that would give the A495 a good run for the money, although I'm not personally a huge fan of Fuji.

There's probably a few more, but this was just from a quick look on Camerapricebuster.com.

edit: Just found out L24 doesn't have sensor shift image stabilisation, which I thought was a big plus point at this price - it's 'electronic stabilisation' which is no use at all. Thanks Snapsort, yet another basic listing error.

L24 image quality is poor compared to A495, A800 is the same camera but is heavier and has a lower resolution sensor (9.7mp, vs 9.8 on the A495). Newer does not mean better, which is why Canon G6's are still selling for £100-£150 on eBay and my S1IS (which cost me £140 new) just sold for £50. Both were made in 2004.

Agreed, it is a pity that more people cannot grasp this concept.

Aw it's sold out, does anyone know of any similar offers with similar quality cameras please?
