Very good reviews

The Canon PowerShot A810 Compact Digital Camera allows you to capture any moment with fantastic clarity. Boasting an impressive 16MP, you can create highly detailed prints from your images and maintain great quality when cropping. The wide angle lens is great for taking group photos while a formidable optical zoom allows you to get closer to the subject of your image.

Could be a great little camera with the CHDK firmware?

This is gonna get hot!!!

Thanks that's me
All done on Fathers day now.

I have had several powershots and been very happy, but a quick glance, some people say the image quality on this is awful?

only draw back is that it uses AA batteries and does not come with a charger. so you need to buy your own charger and rechargeable batteries.

Can't even add it to my basket... Must be the traffic.

Indeed and as a consequence the flash takes a short while to charge. However, picture quality is always excellent.

That's a plus for me. I have lots of AA batteries, chargers and can carry as many as I want with me without fear of running out. I also do not have to worry about buying an expensive replacement when the battery nears end of life.

I think this a benefit: If your battery runs out, you can get a AA battery almost anywhere. Also you're not ripped off if you want to buy a spare battery (some cannon batteries are more expensive than this camera :)).

Many view this as an advantage as it means you can carry spare aa batteries which are cheap and can be purchased anywhere.

Ordered thanks op, been looking to buy a digital cam for a while now.

Worth noting that this model does not zoom (optical) when shooting video

Only 5x zoom and AA batteries - not that cheap then, even for those who kid themselves that AA power is OK.

If it's like my older Powershots you can zoom and them start filming, you just can't zoom in and out whilst you are recording.

Great camera hot as he'll

It's personal preference, and the bespoke li-ion batteries are a form of built in obsolescence, so 3 -5 years later when the battery is dead it isn't worth replacing the battery and so camera is discarded despite still being perfectly good for kids etc.

Just bang some enerloops in it. AA is handy if your battery goes flat on hols, can grab a set in any shop

It does, SF. Just tried it. Something I didn't know about the A810, so thanks.

With a bit of jiggling, images on this are excellent, but do be aware that it eats batteries. Get yourself some good NiMH rechargeables and a decent charger.

Brought this camera for £50 before, very good sometimes a little slow but still real good deal!

It was already cheap at £49.99

Hot deal.

I have no beef against AA powered cameras but you are wrong in thinking you can get suitable batteries 'almost anywhere'. You don't tend to run out of battery in the middle of a well stocked high street; on a few occasions abroad and in the UK the only batteries I was able to find were cheap and useless. You're generally looking at spending a few quid if your rechargeables run out and my old Powershot wouldn't take more than a few shots on a new set of bog standard Duracells.

Moral is always carry spare charged batteries; this is no more of a hassle than with li-ion powered cameras as you'll need to carry spares for them too.

I like SFConverts point about li-ion being built in obsolescence; I recently dragged my old A2100 out of a drawer and used it in a bag for underwater shots on holiday - I'm not sure a li-ion camera left in a drawer for two years would have charged up and been usable.

Can you tell me exactly what battery you got - I've bought replacements for my HX20v but they aren't as good as the Sony original.

Thank you. Just reserved one for my holiday

AA batteries. Is it still 1995?

6mpixel.org/en/ - so 12MP is better than 16MP .

Just got ours home and took this quickly while trying random buttons, it looks fine to me.

My mistake it was Amazon now £3.66 but still great value.

Excellent price, love the powershots, I've got a A590, still does it's job, I get 300+ photos out of each set of AA rechargables, lasts me all day and I have a spare just incase, I've never been let down using good to go rechargables from 7dayshop.

All the rubbish on AA's not being upto the job, we need to be serious, if you use normal AA then you won't get many photos out of a pair, they're not designed for cameras, you need high capacity rechargables rated at least at 2000mah, if you don't photos very often then buy the type of rechargeable batteries that are low draining when not in use, various brands do them under different names:-

7dayshop - Good to Go
Duracell - Staycharged
Sanyo - Eneloop

Ah - thanks for that - it's the same neewer brand as the one I bought - guess I must have a dud as it takes about half the shots of the original.

Not necessarily...

Lads I have an ancient Powershot A530. The thing stopping me from upgrading is that has an old fashioned viewfinder and this does not. How do people manage with just a LCD screen in strong sunlight? Stupid question I know!

oO

Should i buy this or the panasonic

Went to buy this morning, website was saying £35, but when reserving it was saying £45. Refreshed web page and it's now £45. Was in store for something else and camera is on display at £45. Obviously and as usual Argos claiming this is a discount and only in small print pointing out it is actually more expensive than it was yesterday.
