It is a good deal if you don't have local AC specialist garage near where you are as they only charge £20 for a re-charge. Heat added.

having took both my cars for this at another garage last week, be warned that they will probably charge you even if your aircon leaks after a regas and you end up with aircon that's no better than when you drove in. Suffice to say im £80 out of pocket and still have no working aircon on either car!!

Ha Euromaster. These are the bandits that closed their doors on me when I turned up with a rear wheel puncture on a 5 ton van and nowhere else to go on a Saturday morning. Really nice people.

Good point from robw1978 about leaks, but browsing the t's & c's they do quote;
'A pressure test will be carried out prior to the Air-conditioning Recharge and Anti-bacterial treatment being carried out. If a leak in the air conditioning system is detected the recharge and treatment will not proceed.'

Thanks for this. I got one done at the beginning of the year for my car at the Wrexham ATS and there were no issues at all. The guys there were more than helpful and said that if there were leaks etc, then they couldn;t proceed and I could use the voucher on another car.

I have now got another one as the wifes car needs doing too.

This happened to me once - they have to recharge with coolant plus dye and that way you can find the point(s) of leakage. Apparently the seals dry out and fail over time (especially as coolant slowly reduces).

I've had no problems with my local ATS, and afaic this is a good price... Thanks OP!

Isn't that what it is meant to alliavate?

If you haggle they will do it for £20.00.. no ATS price is ever set...

Sorry if this is a daft question.. Does this improve the heating as well or only cooling? Thanks.

Make sure they do carry this test out first...
If your aircon still blows cold, just not as cold as previously, you will probably be ok.
If not, assume all the refrigerant is gone and the seals are likely to be suspect - more work will be required.
You can buy kits to top up at home too.

Same deal from seven months ago which may answer some people's questions

I used this exact amazon local deal last year... my local ATS said it would take about 45 mins to an hour, so I decided to wait... 3 hours later it was finished! - after about 2 hours I had asked if it was ready yet, as I was told it wouldn't take longer than an hour... they said yeah, they were just finishing it... (they didn't apologise at all for it having taken 2 hours already)... but it took an extra hour after that! They were quite busy with lots of other jobs, but they could have been honest with estimated times! - I only live 20 mins walk away, so I would have walked home and walked back later if I had thought it was going to be longer than an hour.

They had free wifi, so I was sat there browsing the net on my phone...

After they had finished I made a comment about the time taken again, and that I would have come back later if I had known it would have taken so long... He kinda just ignored that comment (only barely acknowledging it with a grunt)... and I went on to ask if there were any problems... he just said "nah, it went ok"... Their customer service was terrible, but the AC has been working well for the last year since.

Is "AC Specialist" a brand of garage? - Many local garages around me that advertise they are AC specialists charge around £50... Where is there that will do it for £20?

Who uses aircon in the uk? We get hardly any hot day, you may as well enjoy the sweat.

Used this promotion last time and it was last time I used it!
ATS are useless, they attempted to refill the AC and after 30 minutes came back to me that there is a problem with the valve and it is leaking, and that I should contact my Saab dealer (Saab dealers are gone). Had to contact Amazon Deals direct as they could not sort out a refund for me and I finally got my money back after a month or so.

Went to my friend who has a garage and he filled the AC no problems and said all is good, that's how amazing they are .... NOT!

hastag justsaying

Just checked with my local garage and they will charge £40. Although it is more expensive my nearest ATS which does Air Con is nearly 20 miles away so I think I will stick with my local.

You can use it all year round, not only when hot to get rid of the moisture out of your car in winter. It speeds up the process of thawing of the windscreen.

No, AC Specialist isn't a brand, I meant a local garage that specialise in AC work. I have always used these guys (link below) and they do topup for £20. plus.google.com/104…=en

20 months ago, ATS were offering this at £22.49: http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/half-price-air-con-recharge-22-49-ats-euromaster-1299266

Yes it will improve the heating as well because a regassed aircon system removes moisture which makes you feel warmer and also dramatically improves the demisting of the windscreen. Worth doing but for me it's much better to go to a specialist who will understand the process better and will give better results.

MY car had a leak and the refill is gone.

I wont bother fixing it as I only use the heating anyway.

That's a comment by someone who obviously doesn't have AC in their car

I kinda used to think the same, but after having AC, it's not something I'd want to be without now... I use it mostly in the winter for de-misting - without AC de-misting the windscreen on a bad day could take several minutes - or would need help by wiping the windscreen... With AC, a similar bad day with condensation clears up fully in about 30 seconds.

Predikuesi

What is alliavate?

I had my Astra done at ATS and they did a pressure test prior to doing it, Took about 45 mins, being booked in.

After going back to work and leaving the car for 2 hours the air-con wasn't working. I did get a refund after 3 weeks, but I had to send a letter to head office explaining that there maybe a problem with my air-con system and the gas leaked from the system. They sent me a cheque refund and explained the pressure test must have not been tested for long enough.

I leave my air-con all year round, as above helps demist and defrost better.

Yes, this is especially a problem on older cars and if the air con is not used regularly.

More modern cars have much better seals and less of them.

All my local garages that do aircon refills are £40 and upwards so this deal gets heat from me.

If it were 40% off £33 then I might be tempted. I'm sure you could get a dealer to match, or get very close, to this price.

Went for a very similar deal from Kwik Fit a couple of years ago.
Said it would take 30mins. An hour and a half later still wasn't finished. I asked how much longer and then is if by magic 'all done'.
Couldn't give me the printout showing temp before, after, amount of gas replaced etc as "the printer is broken".

Drove away. Brief blast of cool air. 30mins later.. aircon back to how it was before.

A week later took it into the dealer. They said there was no pressure fault or leak or anything, it just appeared that KwikFit hadn't done anything. They reckoned that for the hour and a half nothing had been going in and then when I asked they gave it a quick blast to make it look like they'd done the job.

Complete rip off.

I'm sure ATS don't do anything like that though.

Is recharge the same as regas? If it is, a regas would cost £100 at a dealer.

I've had no problems with my local ATS, happy customer

Based on my personal experience with ATS I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. They fitted some winter tyres onto my partners car only for one tyre to spectacularly deflate less than 10 miles later on a particularly dangerous and unlit A-road (A69). This caused irreparable damage to the tyres side-wall. They acknowledged liability due to the faulty valve they fitted, but it was such a hassle to deal with them as I was sitting in the middle of squabbles and in-fighting between 2 different ATS branches (the one where the tyres were fitted and the nearest one to us).

They were also unable (by any means) to source another replacement tyre of the same brand or similar spec for up to 4 months, yet I managed to get a replacement shipped from Germany within 2 days, which they reluctantly paid for and fitted. I'd never use them again.

They don't add UV dye, so if it leaks like mine did, you have to pay for it to be recharged again somewhere else. Good deal if you're sure you've not got a leak.

Ive got AC, but never use it. For demisting, why not use the heater, why is aircon superior?

If it is, I may be missing a trick.

Aircon dehumidifies the air so reducing misting v quickly.

Because not only does air con create cool air it also dehumidifies. If you switched on your air con with the car on demist the window will be clear in seconds. Literally.

Those who say that air con helps to defrost the car, err no. The compressor will not come on when it's cold because otherwise there is a risk of it freezing. Normally temp's 5°C and below.
