Seems to work fine for me. I bought one to replace the 99p one I had from eBay (which didn't work for my 3gs)

Not to be funny, but compatibiolity with Apple Iphone/Touch are an issue. I have a hifi which used to charge my ipod touch and iphone. Ironically enough, with updates they dont. I think Apple are just a pain when it comes to 3rd party.

Good price, I'll def be ordering. Heat added.

ordered, worth a shot, handy for my sat nav too

got a twin one in white from poundland works with my 3gs and my sony x series walkman

I got the Twin one from poundland too MUCH BETTER and CHEAPER !

Useful...

Thanks these are spot on,

just gone for 2

Voted hot. I think this is a good deal and so does Keith Chegwin.

Very useful, Makka Pakka approves also. +1

We have one like this, it works fine for my HTC Hero, but won't charge my Mrs's Desire. I don't think they put out enough current.

There shouldn't be a problem with current if it genuinely outputs 1000mA - the USB standard unit load is 500mA, so if a device charges fine when connected via a USB cable to a computer, it should charge fine with this.

Cigarette Powered? I love all these renewable energy sources!

why 1000mA, and not 1A?

Not cheap to run then!

When i looked ity came up as 2.70

Thanks - ordered one as it might come in handy.

That would be 2.70 in dollars.

Converted it came out at £1.74

$ not £

The IPad charger is 10W, i.e. 5V 2A, so this would not be powerful enough to simultaneously use and power the IPad.

It probably would be powerful enough to charge the IPad when you are not using it - you'll get the "Not charging" status at the top right if you turn on the IPad, but with the IPad off it should slowly charge (same as when you plug it into a USB port).

for the desire it will work well (if it is 1000mA) and 500mA will also charge it just slower.

Many recent mobile devices have adopted the 'Dedicated Charging Port' USB standard requiring the data pins to be shorted to charge correctly and allowing up to 1.8A charge.

The Belkin charger, like many cheap cigarette lighter chargers, does not have shorted data pins. Unfortunately the casing is moulded so not easy to short those pins from inside. You can hack the cable if you're desperate.

Cheers - was going to ask if this would work with my Desire. Anyone know of a good place to get on for the Desire?

Cheers!!

cold, you can get a car cigarette usb adapter off ebay for 99p delivered like i did works with anything that uses a usb cable on one end!

This is excellent for a BMW 5 (old e39) series as it is possible to push down the cig lighter and hide charger when not in use.

That of course assumes that your car lighter can output this much.

I bought these and they were ok at first, used for a few weeks and they have a tendency to melt in the socket, mine was a bit overheated and melted in my cigerete lighter, which i had to go and replace, dont buy the cheap stuff, same goes for £ shop light bulbs, dont buy those, it melted my light compartment. go for branded stuff, not oem, dont risk ruining your device you connect it to and your car.
well thats my advice anyway. Good luck

Ordered! Bought one a few days ago from fleabay, didn't realise they need more power!!

These were only added to dealextreme a few days ago. Was very tempted to order but think I'll wait for a few people to receive them and read the reviews. This looks just like the tiny Belkin one which costs at least £6 so potentially a great deal if the quality is up to scratch.

Some phones don't pull 1000mA due to the USB protocol being 500mA, and the phone thinking it's connected to a PC rather than a charger.

This can cause the phone to loose power whilst on charge when running power hungry options on the phone like GPS and Bluetooth etc.

By bridging (soldering) the two centre contacts of the USB socket on the charger, the phone identifies the charger as a charger rather than a USB PC port, and will pull the full 1000mA.

Hope this helps.

If it can charge iPhone 3Gs, i have to vote hot!
Order one to try...

Will this work with a TomTom ONE XL?

Does this work for iPhone 4?

Thanks for share - ordered.

P

I ordered these last time they came up and they never arrived. However I did get a refund without any issues.
