    I know people say using boiling water is bad, and it probably is...

    Using room temperature water is fine, just spray it on the ice or use a bucket and tip it over.

    These ice scrapers will never remove ice effectively when it's layered on.

    I think it's the ease of use. Many people live in flats so getting a bucket of water might be too onerous.

    The de icer spray kind of works.

    Save yourself time and a quid and just fill an empty 2L bottle with cold/mild water, it melts the ice quickly and cost almost nothing

    This works best, I use leftover warm water from my kettle or boil the kettle briefly. Just don't use boiling hot water as it can crack glass

    I just use extension cables and put oil-filled radiators around the car at night to keep the cold away.

    That's fine if you don't live on a busy road or have a driveway.
    I imagine a BBQ could work if you're a light sleeper?

    It's rubbish. Only the tiny corners make contact with the ice. So you're just left with two small lines and frustration.

    Thanks OP. Also Pound shop do a scraper with long handle with plastic scraper end and brush in the middle. They also do a de icer can for £1.

    I prefer a plastic scraper with a rubber blade. If anyone can post, as I have the pound shop versions.
