First Post so I'm bracing myself
I bought this same model nearly 3 years ago - it cost £49.99 then. It can record from the radio onto Sd card or memory stick, plays CD's and the radio has LW as well as FM and MW which if you know someone who likes their cricket is quite useful and rare to have on a Car Stereo.
It's not the highest spec you'll ever see but its never let me down and £10 cheaper than i paid thought it was worth a mention
Oh and bizarrely it even has a remote control...even my arms aren't that short!

Does the cd player start from the beginning each time or the last track played and whats it like going over bumps...........

Original Poster

I've never had it jump going over bumps and i've just been out to check about the tracks - it restarts exactly where it stopped the last time - so if you're 30" into track 3 when you switch it off that's where it picks up - Hope that helps.

Great first deal

if it's the same as the one I bought from LIDL a year or so ago then it's good value for money - the only bad thing is the use of Blue Lights which are far too bright and reflects a lot in your eyes a lot at night depending on where your radio goes in your car. In my car the radio sit very high and in my line of sight. This player would have been a lot better if the colour was amber for example.

To save me finding out...anybody know how much fitting of this would cost roughly? (I only ask as I haven't got the right keys to get the current (faulty) stereo out of my car and am trying to weigh this offer up against the £30 stereo on ebuyer which includes free fitting (although without all the extra features)).

Unfortunately blue seems to be the style colour of the moment, I believe even the Wii loading slot flashes blue when you press eject!!

We had a similar one from Aldi, that also came with a remote! I don't know about this particular model, but CD mechanisms have come a long way over the years, I've not seen one that has trouble with bumps for a while.

The biggest problem we have is that the unit doesn't like VBR MP3's. It gets confused with the track length, and in some cases only plays a few seconds before switching to the next track. If I put them back on to the computer and reprocess them at 192Kbits then they play fine. But at that point the track has gone through two lots of MP3 encoding, which is not good in terms of quality.

Its like it could do with a firmware update, but I doubt that is even possible...

It would be costly. Places like Halfords offer free/cheap fitting but only for their own stuff. Getting someone else to fit it would probably cost at least £30.

But if its the keys that you're after, they are fairly easy to get hold of. I'd suggest Ebay and Google are the first place to look. And most cars use standard connectors now, fitting a radio is alot easier than it was when I fitted my first one those many years ago. You used to have a bundle of coloured wired that made no sense, now its just one or two connectors and the aerial lead.

Agree the blue light is distracting but if you touch the top left "on" button it does have two settings for the display - so it can be slightly dimmer at night

recording ffrom the radio eh?
i remember listening to the kid jensen chart show on sunday afternoons to do that.
surprised anyone would want to nowadays though.
regarding stereo fitting i pay £15 have a look on yell.com

I had to remove my old faulty stereo from my car without keys - it wasn't too difficult with a sturdy screwdriver and a bit of elbow grease. It did damage the exterior of the stereo, but no loss as it was faulty anyway. Like the poster above stated, it's very easy to fit new car stereos in now.

Thats all you need for MOST car radio removals. I made mine out of two bits of strong wire in about 5 mins. works perfectly.

Otherwise you probably need these.

Just leave the doors unlocked in a shady pub carpark at night - by the time you get to the car in the morning the stereo should have been removed for free....true story.

Coat hangers work just as well.

nope. Apple uses proprietary database/formats and this probably won't be able to read it.

You can use a creative player though

I have a peugeot 206. Is it compatible with this car? I am wondering if the wiring is standard or each car maker has its own version of wiring?

no reason why it shouldn't be, every car these days uses standard connections and for non-standard ones, you can buy an adapter online or get it in halfords

bit fiddly. keys are cheap and can be used again

Wiring is standard to a certain degree, it will work with your 206, you may need to buy a wiring harness though?
Froogle "206 head unit wiring" as you will need the fascia adaptor shown at the top and one of the wiring looms.
Very easy to do though!

my car is a 2002, 206 Peugeot. I tried to install a JVC and the antenna needs an adaptor. what type of antenna connection is the standard one?
does this radio has Steering Control interface?

I bought a similar car stereo a little while ago.

It came with the tools to take the old stereo out, it took a bit of wiggling and jiggling but it came out, just swap the cabes from the old stereo to the new!
Job done!

I am not expecting any steering wheel remote, but as I have one already, can I connect it to this radio?

I've only seen proprietary steering mounted remote controls i.e.: sony ones working with sony systems and pioneer remotes connecting to pioneer HU's.

Try and google to see if its possible with yours, put the model number in google and see.

This is interesting. Recording from the radio = awesome for when I'm listening to my pirates.

Anyone know what it encodes to?

Also I assume this comes with standard RCA connectors so I can wire my amp in, and there shouldn't be any problem connecting the remote wire from the amp/sub to this so it switches on/off automatically right?

I'm currently using a stereo I got from ebuyer a few years ago, cost £50 and has been awesome but is on its way out. Would be a shame to see it go, but this offer does seem very tempting...

Edit: I can't find a decent size pic of this anywhere and Lidl's site keeps directing me to the postcode input. Can anybody post one, or even better (and I'm being rather cheeky) take a pic of this installed in their motor? Cheers!

Edit2: Looks like this is the one: electronicsweekly.com/blo…JPG . Like many electronics from Lidl it'll be branded "Silvercrest".

Edit3: Here is a review: electronicsweekly.com/blo…tml . It would seem the current one that's gonna go on sale @ Lidl, judging by the pic on Lidl's site, is the first one being discussed in the review, not the 'improved' one.

what make is it please, wanting to no then i can see if i can get a nice wire harness from halfords that way i can just plug it in and it's done.I always buy a new harness then i can just plug it in instead of snipping all the wires on the car

the player will/should have a standard cable connection. The harness depends on your car so while it would be nice to know what make it is, it really isn't that important

if you have problems getting your current head unit out just use two flat bladed screw drivers, depending on the type of key or coat hanger as has been mentioned.

Thanks to all for the answers to my earlier question. Much appreciated.

tuckeral, what sort of car do you have, varies very much and usually there are forums for your car make on the net where they can advise. Mines a skoda and all you need for that is two thin slices of old credit card, or better yet steal the misses credit card, might save you some money!

No.

I have had two of these and they are good for the money!.

None at Newcastle Walkergate or Newcastle Battle Hill

Just bought one - you have to ask a cashier to get you one from an office as they don't have them on display.

Oh and that was form Swalwell (Newcastle)

It does have an AUX port so you can plug in an Ipod and play it that way.
