Lloyds Pharmacy have a similar one for £9.99 in-store

Check if you gotta local store.

EDIT: Online too here

£9.99 in Asda

£10 in B&Q

Carbon monoxide detectors vary in quality and function, so the price itself doesn't always reflect the product nor a bargain.

Some only last for a few years and the sensor needs to be replaced, often costing more than the unit itself, others last for longer and are designed to be replaced completely.

Worth checking the specs before buying.

As stated, the Argos one will last 7 years, it will probably then start beeping until it is replaced. The Lloyds one provides no details on how long the sensor lasts...

Just my personal preference, but I would rather go with one that had a digital display and shows any background carbon monoxide levels i.e. ]here as low levels of carbon monoxide won't set off the alarm, but will slowly poison you.

ring the local fire station, they give free smoke alarm

That's the one I've got, except I got it from Amazon when they were selling them for £16.95 rather than their current price of £33.37.

Smoke alarms aren't the same thing as Carbon Monoxide alarms. If your home (or your neighbours if you live in a multiple-occupancy building such as a block of flats) has any gas appliances, you should have a Carbon Monoxide alarm as well as a Smoke Alarm. Carbon Monoxide can be present without smoke!

whats with these new non smoke alarms councils are asking for? iv forgot the name of them they detect fire thru heat signature

Optical smoke detectors, perhaps? Useful for kitchens, since steam won't cause false alarms, unlike Ionization alarms.
