Shimano Sora groupset I believe.

Certainly doesn't look a bad deal!

not a bad deal! crazy cheap carbon though so don't expect good stiffness etc..

Corking deal

22" (55cm) also seems available for normal sized people.

The spec is great for the money asked. Hope the carbon elements are stiff enough.hot

Looks like a nice bike. Here's a review from someone who took the plunge. Also here's a Cyclechat thread if you're thinking of buying.

Will this be a fairly light bike? I'm looking for a light road bike as I'd have to carry it over a railway bridge every day.

Personally I would go for a good quality aluminium frame over this.

Could easily pick up a decent specialised, giant, cube, Scott etc for this price range plus in lots more sizes

Must admit though, its a nice looking bike

8.5kg apparently. That's pretty light for a bike with 2kg of wheels attached.

Really decent bike for the money.

Come on, £400 for a full carbon bike with Sora. You'd have to be a pretty big brand snob to not reckon this to be a great entry level bike. I've read that the frame is made by Liyang, whom male frames for some bigger brands. tempted to pick this up as a commuter.

* who make (bog off autocorrect)

This bike is a steal if you're after a decent commuter bike.

Hi
I want to know your opinion
what would you go for the Triban 500 or this?
I've got the Triban 500 and love it so I'm thinking if this is better is it worth the purchase?
any opinions given will be appreciated
Thanks

Thinking of going for this as after a road bike to go with my Specialized Hybrid. Seems great spec for the money but I'm no expert. I've seen the Triban 500SE in Decathlon and thought it felt a good bike but this does seem better for the money with the full carbon frame (and certainly 1.5 kg lighter or so)

Would go for the Homebase offer but as someone has said, no detail on which size is which!!!

I need my genitalia still..... I think

I would probably go for this. The Sora groupset alone is worth a couple of hundred, plus this is lighter, so a bit easier on hills.
All in all, looks a good deal.

I`m 6ft and 32Inch inside leg.Which frame size would be best for me?
Cheers.

Mmmmmmmm winter carbon......shame it dissolves in water really.

I compared to argos website, on bottom there is EAN for each bike:
EAN: 3324525 is 23 inch and EAN3324518 is 22 inch, but unfortunately only 23 inch is available to buy in homebase. I'm 1.84m tall and 86cm inside leg, I should buy 22 or 23 inch?

You need a 58cm, whatever that equates to in frame inches.

Everything disolves in water...eventually.

This is a good deal for a decent spec lightweight bike. Think if I had to choose between the Triban 500 SE and this the Triban would just win me over with it's 27 gears, but it's a close contest.

Hot. I'm tempted by this.

This bike is not sufficiently better than a Triban 500 to justify buying IMO.

Cheap Chinese carbon frame and forks plus headset - ~£250
R500 Wheels - ~£70
Tyres - ~£20
Groupset as is with Sora STI shifters - ~£190
Bar, Stem, Tape, Seatpost and Seat - ~£70

If you were to build the same bike from parts you'd be looking at £600. So while it's cheap at £400, it was never an £800 bike.

Would a pair of DMR V8 pedals be ok on this?

If you're looking for a commuter, you might want to consider if you want

I use V8 style pedals on my hybrid. They really tear up the shoes I use for work, but they do grip nicely.

This seems to be about 15% lighter than the triban.
Carbon doesn't always mean lighter - for instance Caberg was selling a carbon motorcycle helmet that was a similar weight to traditional helmets sold by other more upmarket manufacturers.
However this does look to be lighter- had a look at a similarly priced Boardman and that came in at just over 10kg. For push bikes I'm not too bothered by weight - I'll take a motorbike if I want to get there much quicker, so with panniers, large lock, extra bar bits and so on I reckon my Charge Scourer is now around 20kg.

Absolute bargain - bike snob or not this is a lot of bike for the money.

Buy

Its not too heavy, and looking at the photos it looks like its got an adult chainset too - 53, 39, which is impressive for this price point.
I like it a lot.

wow. Argos selling a decent bike, what next?

Its no looker, but Carbon frame, Sora and RS500 wheels. That's a very very decent spec for the price.

Looks pretty good to me.

Simple formula:

The right number of bikes to own is always n+1

Triban 500 now £329 or Triban 500 SE for £349....this still a better buy?

Thanks for the info
defo looks a cracking deal I think the only issue will be the fact that it's Argos.
anyway I'll probably give it a go and if I like it I'll keep it if not will return it.

I too love my Triban and don't want to replace it but this deal is sort of luring me to give it a try

Ah cheap carbon, reminds me of my old Focus. Fantastic value for money, turned out to be just good components on a cost cutting cheap cakky carbon frame, snapped 3 of them before I'd finally had enough and got rid before the warranty ran out.
