Nice find op looks good entry level bike for the money, good reviews.
Nice bike for the money.
Liking the straight forks
Want a hybrid but this weighs as much as my mountain bike?
good find op, heat added
Subway is only an extra £24, with better gears, disc brakes and the steel fork will be more forgiving than alu.
I've had this for about a year and a half - bought for £200. No real complaints, apart from a few of the cheaper components rusting up quite quickly.
A good buy at this price if you're not bothered by the lack of disc brakes.

Just confused! I thought most of the weight was in the forks for mountain bikes, this has no suspension so I expected it to be nearer 10kg.
Looking at bikes recently I want to start cycling for weight loss, one of the trails near me involves lifting the bike over a tall fence, will this be to heavy? Also a good starter bike?
People on here should start being realistic about the weights of cheap bikes.....
To quote Bontrager "Light, strong, cheap..... Pick two"

Optimistic. My full carbon Specialized hybrid is 10kg (that cost the first owner £1500!).
Just skip breakfast and you'll save a few grams!
have some heat,,,,,, recently got the subway 1 which i am very happy with
Don't forget the 10% voucher link - just picked a Carrera Saruna for my daughter and the voucher knocked a further 10% off the price - and a handy 3% quidco for reserve and collect too. Lastly picking up vouchers off Zeek could save you an additional 8-10% depending on which vouchers you pick up.

So with a bit of luck and all of the above you are looking at this coming around 126-ish - which IMHO is a steal.

14kg is really easy to lift.

least you will lose more weight lifting a heavier bike

Yes, it's a good starter bike.
As for the weight, difficult to say without knowing what you can manage - I get it above my head fine to get it on the roof rack.

Wow! That would be onehellofa light bike. Probably a lot of the weight is in the bigger wheels
Just been in my local halfords, nice bike but it's a shame the staff were totally disinterested in helping me as they were closing in 45 minutes, great grips, nice gear change levers but halfords has lost me as a customer, the search continues...

Apart from the customer service experience, did you find anything wrong with the bike per se?
Is the Carrera Subway 1 any good as a stater, mainly for road use and sometimes trails?

No it's a lovely bike, not very heavy I could lift it with one hand but I am a big lad, worth the money.
Heat added. You won't get a better bike for that price. A good strong hybrid which will last forever if you look after it!!!!
Anyone know how good this is at getting up hills? I live in Stoke, quite a few hills round here. Or does anyone have any recommendations of bikes good with hills?

Yeah, one with a motor..
Good for the money, although bit over built for commuting, 27.5 wheels just add extra weight if you are just using it for on road. Not a lot of choice at this price for something useable.

Thanks OP!
This post has lead me on to researching bikes, watching youtube videos for an hour now only for me to suddenly realise I have absolutely no requirement for a bike at this point in time

Suntour adjustable front forks look cool - can anyone confirm what the lockout/adjustability does so I can go to sleep ta!
Heavy with very wide tyres, not ideal for city commuting

Ok so just collected my bike. Showed them the voucher and got a further 10% so got it for £143.28. Very happy and great buy for that price. Also got 10% of the service plan so an extra £36 for 3 years servicing and labour. Excludes parts

Used this voucher myself last night. Works perfectly on bikes and parts. Its only usable until tomorrow
Decent bike, bought myself with 10% off code.
Will use for commuting, first impressions are its very sturdy and moves very well, rolls for a long distance, may change tyres as they seem very wide.
I actually went into Halfords today to look at some bikes and to find out more about the different sizes and what frame is right for me (turns out its 17-18 inch). I was looking at the Apollo series at first which is the lower tier of bike and he got on to explaining the differences between those bikes (£80-140) and the Carrera series. It mostly included better breaks, lighter material and a sightly larger wheel.

He actually recommended this exact bike saying it was a good middle ground between the cheap bikes and more expensive bikes. He explained it was a solid bike and that is was very easy to self assemble and maintain. The bike itself was not available in-store and I probably would not have known of this bike if he did not mention it to me. He explained a lot of things to me and the process was overall very pleasant and professional.

Long story short. I bought this bike and getting it delivered Tuesday

I presume you are happy with not being able to knock an additional 10% of the price as the voucher expires today or has actually given that its store only and the shops have closed?
