I know there is probably mixed views on the original RRP but I think this is still a pretty good deal in terms of overall price vs the product and excellent reviews

Specs below:

Carrera TDF Road Bike Product Description

The Carrera TDF Medium Road Bike features a full Shimano drivetrain with 16-speed ST-2300 shift and brake levers. With a great all round specification, the Carrera TDF also features a strong yet lightweight frame with double wall alloy rims for a bike that is tough, built to last and lightweight for speed.

Using compact frame geometry, the Carrera TDF offers a light, stiffer frame with an increased stand over height.

Due to the compact nature of the TDF frame we measure the effective top tube rather than the seat tube. As a result the large or medium bikes still fall within the rider height parameter as laid out in our sizing guide

Features & Benefits of the Carrera TDF Road Bike
◾ Lightweight 6061 alloy frame
◾ Shimano 16-speed gearing with RD-2300 rear mech
◾ Tektro dual pivot brake callipers provide reliable braking performance in all conditions
◾ Road racing Kenda 700c x 23c tyres are fast rolling and controlled while road riding
◾ Strong yet lightweight alloy rims reinforce wheel strength

would this be ok for someone who is 5ft 10 / 11 ?

A lot of bike at that price, struggle to get anything cheaper than that anyway (Viking aside) so level of Shimano kit at that price is excellent. Excellent starter bike IMO for any roadies out there.....

Lock up well if you get one. Might was stolen from my shed a week after buying brand new

I'm 5ft 8" and ride a 54 frame (although different make) and would think that you are probably fine with either the medium or large frame but best to get yourself down and try it if possible.

Gutted. 2 weeks ago it was £350. It went down to £299 last week, so I bought it then :-(

good at £249. was never worth £599. voted hot at this price, just make sure it fits you. I ride a carrera 54cm compact and I'm 5'10 if that helps anyone.

Don't think this works for road bikes ??? 54cm frame (size of medium bike here) equates to 21" which would suggest is not suitable for those in excess of 6ft as your table suggests.

Only sure way is to get yourself down and give them a go.

I'm still dithering over getting a Carrera or the Btwin Triban 3 (red). Seems that for an extra £50 I can get the later. Missed the opportunity in getting the Carrera for £199 when Frome won the TDF. There are a few stores with stocks of the Triban 3

You are right I am sure, I just copied from the Halfords site

reasoanbly prcie for spec, RRP is a joke lol

The was price is pure BS, I don't know how they get away with this....... the price fluctuates throughout the year from £349.99 down to this price of £249.99.

Low class of thief in your area ... the ones around here wouldn't get out of bed for anything less than a Pinarello

Never worth £600, probably worth £250 but still better off dishing out an extra £50 and getting the Triban 3. Regardless, voted hot as it's the best price for this bike

Triban 3 is the queen of entry level road bikes in the market atm! The extra 50 quid will buy you not only carbon forks but lifetime frame guarantee and one year service at Decathlon. My red clocks 400Km a week since early 2012 and still going strong!

Had the same bike until someone stole it... Was a nice fit for 6'1, the frame as 21.5" i think.

...if you can find a red one. Careful to avoid the sneakily de-specced white.

I think for that price, the groupset should be better.

Ours won't nick road bikes, even scummy thieves don't want to be seen riding road bikes.

Halfords even stock a cheaper road bike for under £200. halfords.com/web…710

I bought the Triban 3a (lower spec white version), as I couldnt get my size in the red Triban 3. I was aware of the lower spec on the bike, but on the whole, I am still pleased with the bike.

Just wondering whether anyone had a reasonable comparison of the spec of the new Triban 3 with the Carrera TDF.

got it for £249 in july- its a cracking first bike at this price. Ive done about 400miles on itso far.

A decent bike for the cash, wouldn't have bought at full value, but this price it's a bargain. And comes with pedals!

This bike is rubbish and there service is terrible. My forks snapped within 6 months and most of the gears and wheels disintegrated.

The reason the reviews look good is because they publish the bad ones like the one I left.

DO NOT BUY, false economy and never sold for more than £350 so RRP is made up!

As someone has already stated in this thread, if you were thinking of starting to get out on a road bike, this would be an excellent low-cost introduction. Keep going through the winter months and then use your cycle scheme at work to purchase that dream machine you will inevitably start hankering after in the spring

Go here to upgrade your wheels! Highly recommended.... v-sprintwheels.com/
you can get a set of basic road wheels for £120 hand made with miche hubs. Got em put on my Triban. Luverly!

Has anyone got a link to the Triban3 please or a recommended seller?

Cheers

Sounds like your bike was badly set up, and to that end, the Halfords service was bad. I do think the Halfords=bad thing is often overplayed, though.

have the triban 3 and it is better than the tdf carerra but for £50 less this is a very good price. great review of bikeradar and definitely one of the best road bikes under £300

I were right about that saddle.... It did tear mine up for the first few hundred miles, I picked up a £10 saddle in TK Maks that is far more comfy than the one provided.

When having to pay for a replacement wheel as the freehub broke a week after 12 months they reassembled the wheel but out the value threadnut of the innertube INSIDE the rim of the wheel causing a bulge which I saw straight away. Not only bad service but incompetence.

Put one of these in a sneaky place to recover it easily if it does get stolen:

Isn't this the bike that can often be seen for £180-£200 the last few years ?
