Just bought one (18" frame) for my son, good bike for the money. Trade in bikes are sent to prisons for inmates to repair and then sent to Africa, good idea.
FloptimusPrime22/09/2019 22:56

looked at reviews and a few people pointed out issues with the brakes.

They are hydraulic. Just like a cars. It'll take a few miles to bed them in. Also the mine had far too much travel before they worked, Halfords guy said that's just how they are, incorrect. There is a grub screw, it's small ,but stainless steel so easy see ,in the bit behind the brake grip. Use a small hex key to turn it inwards this makes the brakes quicker to work.
That's good it's the first time I have seen this

I had one of these. Good bike for the money
Showing low stock online. I went into a branch and they had them. Bought one , super easy to ride but i'll be changing the tyres for puncture protected ones.
Looking for one for the misses , is there much difference between the men's and lady's bikes, I know the colours are different but would be nice to use it myself but I'm not riding a bike with pink on it for no-one.

It's only in grey.
Only XS available in terms of frams size so I guess I am late?
“A cheap mountain bike for the money”. Not sure I like the sound of this deal

(no offence meant, just made me smile)

Dw you wasn’t late
Someone commented the same thing 3 hours before you

Which means there was hardly any stock in the first place so not much of a deal
I know it sounds ridiculous that I’m asking, but do I actually have to bring in a bike?
is it normal to have big massive welds on the frame lol.?

The more welds the more strength

Higher end frames may go for smoothwelds but they cost extra money and are no stronger but it makes aluminium frames resemble higher end carbon fibre frames. The important thing here is they have extra welded in reinforcing for the seat post and under the downtube next t the headtube. It's clearly been designed to be strong. Many brands skimp on such reinforcing.

For the price here smoothwelds would be unrealistic.

says within 14 days and states condition of the item.
Still too much imo was only 220 few months back
I'm sure you can trade in a scooter as well...also I bought the oranger Carrera which was posted the other day......it might be worth popping in to your local Halfords as they started putting some clearance lines in
Thanks for posting @Daftasabrush we have added this thread to the Highlights page

Not for the limited edition with hydraulic Brakes. This is definitely a better dealat this price £224
Ooh I seen someone with this the other day thought it had been spray painted
I bought my son a bike in July and its now gone up 20%.. However trade in offer back 20% off! Just good marketing! I went on other day you can trade on anything and even kids scooter as long as useable..
I manager to do this before the stock showed as 0 but had problems when going to the store with old bike they wouldn't accept it due to the chain had some sag on it and a few links had gone hard.

so be warned they are selective with the bikes you trade in.

The other bad thing is they have more stock then is claimed in the store i went to they had all the sizes yet online it now claims they dont have any. and staff said it has to be done online they wont do this offer unless ordered online sounded odd so i phoned my other local one who said the samething they only had stock for small one.
Times must be hard at Halford, long gone are the days when they regularly did 50% off, 20% seems as good as it gets these days
Just picked one up (20") that I reserved over the phone last week. The bike I traded in was f****d & that wasn't an issue.
Basically, if you go into a local store they can see the *actual* levels on their system even though the website says xs only. You can then ring the store in question & reserve over the phone. I found the staff online & in store very helpful.
You can also stack codes; I got an extra 10% off with blue light card, so presumably any other discount card would also be stackable.

It was an apollo.
Basically very poor cosmetic condition, perished tyres (temporarily inflated to take into store) rusted saggy chain and general rust spots. It may have helped that it was a pre-order so a done deal already, but I asked in other stores & they all said they'd basically take anything (contrary to the official t&cs).

As a bonus, the 20% trade in discount was applied to everything I bought (bike, cycle care package & various accessories, some of which were already discounted as I'd ordered on line). Hooray!

If you can find the right member of staff they can check national stock levels & identify stores with stock on their system. You can then reserve for collection later.
