thanks

great bike for the money.

seems a cracking price

Excellent

this or the Avanti Giro 1 at £330? I'm an outbof shape middle aged man wanting to get back into biking. comments (that are helpful) appreciated.

cheers

Will be used on roads, but not sure how big a difference a mountain versus a road would give.

If you are cycling on roads then I would tend to always say get a road/hybrid bike. I used my dads old Raleigh M-Trax for 11 years before getting my first road bike. MTB are perfectly find to use on the road but they do tend to weigh more.

Depends on the tread pattern, and width of the One of my bikes is like cycling through glue.

Seems an excellent price - could someone more knowledgeable let me know if this is better than the Carrera Vulcan? I know this one is priced better in the sale, just curious as to whether this is the better bike leaving aside the price, because the Vulcan will eventually be for sale at half price (probably) and that's the one I've been looking at. Thanks

This is probably a bit nearer what you want/need but you would probably be better off without the unnecessary and heavy suspension and fat tyres; so actually neither of them is right. Keep a look out for a decent hybrid - a more road orientated one for your purposes. Getting the wrong bike (even a well made one) won't encourage you to enjoy cycling. It's one of the few forms of exercise I enjoy (on a nice day). Good luck.
PS If you are mechanically competent £200 will get you a very good used hybrid via ebay or similar: look for brands like Specialized, TREK, etc. Giant are excellent value too.

In theory the Vulcan is slightly higher spec and a step up from the Vengeance, e.g. it has hydraulic disk brakes instead of cable ones and the suspension has more travel. This is reflected in the normal prices outside of the sales. Still, it looks like the Vengeance has its own plus points, e.g. slightly lighter and available in a 22" frame.

I need to get a hybrid.

If on the roads, definitely look at a hybrid bike. Now is a good time to start looking out for deals as the 2016 models start to attract discounts from their initial prices.
I recommend keeping an eye on places like Halfords, Evans Cycles if only for the ability to goi in store and try the bike out.

Don't get too tied up in it all though, something like this offers a more than decent starting point and is heavily discounted already. It's worth noting that it doesn't have mudgaurds or rack if that was something you might like.

There are means of getting it cheaper as well, British Cycling membership = 10% (after £16-20 outlay or borrow a friends) or you can purchase vouchers which offer 10% off, or use both! Or wait for Halfords flash sales(10%) - sign up to their emails. And you can use all three if you're cunning about it eg: 10% flash sale - click and collect it! Then buy vouchers at 10% off, then wave your British Cycling at the till when you collect. Take into account that last discount when buying the vouchers.... tadaaaaa - nearly 30% off

This one at a very similar price!

So annoying that the suspension doesn't lock or I'd pick this up, I went from a locking suspension to no locking suspension and the difference is huge

The suspension also locks on the Vulcan which is a godsend when climbing. I bought the Vulcan last week in the bank holiday sale for £299, cheaper than the current price and discount code.

I'll only be using it on road and light trails so I need to change the current bobbly tyres to near-slicks.

Would your BC membership card work for an additional 10% off?

Thanks for sharing

Can just change the tyres if going on the road a lot.Tyres between 1.5"-2" width should be ok for roads on a MTB.Can get a cross between stubbly and slick thread pattern if like as well.

Which is the best out of the two?

The Vengeance has been downgraded considerably, since it used to be in the Black Frame with Hydraulic disc brakes and, Alivio gear shiftres & deraillieurs and Rock shok forks.

Thanks! Ordered

Decent light hybrid if you're tall enough for an xl size. I've got in medium and it's a belter. Also if you have a work discount scheme like nhs discounts, mylifestylerewards or similar you can usually get about 8-10pc off at Evans. And at halfords too.

Depends how far work is and terrain.

I am looking for a bike to commute to work approx 1.5 miles. Should I buy this or the Carrera Crossfire 2 which is the same price?

This or the Vandetta?

hukdbargain

Depends how far work is and terrain.

you'll only be on it 10 mins - probably be faster walking by the time youve got bike ready, your gear on, cycled, gear off, bike secured etc

It's the Carrera Crossfire 2, hydrid version for the same price! http://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/hybrid-bikes/carrera-crossfire-2-mens-hybrid-bike-2015

I am searching for a bike in london, what do you think will be the best option guys? Thank you!

It doesnt said how much kg the crossfire 2 has. I've been searching in google and looks like this one is 1kg more than the montain version? How is that possible?

I bought it last week for 215!! Anyone know if I can get refund?

Read further up the thread...

What size frame would you recommend for 6'? 18 or 20 inch?

20inch (21 in the hybrid) ? for your size, I'm only 5:7 and just tried a 19 inch Hyrbrid 2 instore and that was fine for me
