you can get the 10 cheaper than this.. i got it for £65 quid from ebay currys outlet... or are you saying the h5 is better loughbrough?

The 10 has a lot better battery

The EX-H10 is over £160... not much point comparing a £100 deal with something 60% more expensive.

The EX-H5 has excellent 'customer reviews' at Amazon, & a nice collection of awards... exilim.co.uk/exi…h5/

John Lewis have the EX-H5 for £99.99 ... ordered mine today for collection tomorrow.

Looks a good little camera, but 840ms shutter lag is worryingly slow, even by compact camera standards and over twice as long as the average. If you want to take a photo of anything that moves, forget it. For this reason, can't vote it hot, I'm afraid (not cold, either though, if you can live with its limitations.

Of 37 Amazon 'customer reviews', only one mentions shutter lag... 'Excellent camera with many features. Great value for money. Only negative is the slight shutter delay when taking an action picture but once used to that not a problem. For the price, cannot be faulted.'

Amazon 'customer reviews' of the EX-H5 includes...

1. 'Best of all, in my opinion, is the battery life. I've taken nearly five hundred photos so far, and loads of videos, and I've charged the battery up once. It's supposed to do about 1000 photos between charges, which I reckon is perfectly achievable if you don't take videos.'

2. 'Now battery life. I have taken over 2,000 pictures on 8MP setting and its only just run out. Maybe that is a record, I dont know, but WOW, I have used it for 3-4 weeks and its only today just gone into the red (lowbattery).'

Could you translate the above into English?

Congratulations on your no-longer available secondhand bargain deal, but how is it relevant to anyone looking for a brand new camera?

The EX-H5 is a real bargain at £99 ... how can you possibly describe it as a rip-off?

well if the h10 could be had for over £30 cheaper in the past that doesnt make this (marginally) lower spec camera a great deal imo

yeah it was second hand but it was boxed with all its components as new with a warranty from a reliable retailer....

i can only pressume the cameras were used at a convention or expo maybe as how would they get hold of soo many used ex-h10's??

Comparing a new H5 unfavourably with a secondhand H10 is ridiculous. A new H10 is £182.40 delivered from Amazon. No doubt it's worth the extra, however, that's irrelevant to people looking to spend £100 on a camera.

For me the main selling points of the H5 is:
+ 10x optical zoom equivalent to 24-240mm on a 35mm camera
+ good build quality
+ good battery life between charges
+ a stack of awards & good word of mouth from Amazon customers
+ small enough to fit in a pocket
+ £100 pricetag

If you want to contribute something useful, tell us of a better new (i.e. not secondhand) camera with similar features available for the same price or less.

I've looked at alternatives like the Pentax Optio RZ10, Fuji T200, Fuji JZ300 & 500, Olympus VR-310, etc, but I think the H5 is the best of the bunch, so I've bought one.

i wasnt looking to have a go dooper, i always like ur help on TV's but i think your a bit wrong here

the specs on these 2 seem almost identical so i wouldnt hvae thought the h10 was worth the extra money at £180 considering you get no manual features

i was refering to price of the item as a deal which in comparison to old deals is not a particularly good price

plus im sure i have seen you compare warehouse deals on TV's and such with other new models? which if you have would make you a little hypocritical

imo this is not a very good price for this camera with all things taken into consideration....

im a little suprised you think paying 50% more for a lower spec model of effectively the same thing just cause its listed as brand new is...

each to there own though

not in one instance was my point targeted at the quality or spec of the camera, but if it was id say

i think youve paid a little over the odds for sumthing which is a fairly old model and rather plasticy, personally i was happy with £67 as it meant i could abuse the thing at that kinda price and not have to worry too much, it takes allright pictures, the zoom is handy the battery life is great and thats what sold it too me

I got my ex10 from play.com last october time for £119.95 !!

Was my wit wasted, Loughboro Guy? You're normally more on the ball than that!:|

yes its my new girlfriend in the avatar

In that case I can entirely understand why you're not as on the ball as usual. If she was my girlfriend I would have ****ed myself to death by now!X)

im close to death but its heaven at the moment !

Collected my EX-H5 from John Lewis yesterday.

I don't need a new camera. I have a 3 year old Fuji F50FD dpreview.com/rev…asp , which is technically superior to the Casio in some ways... the Fuji has shutter priority & aperture priority modes, etc.

I wanted the EX-H5 for holidays, as it's 10x optical zoom is more useful than the Fuji's 3x zoom for filling the frame when you can't get close to the subject.

I took some photos with both cameras yesterday for comparison purposes. I expected to prefer the results with the Fuji, it being a more expensive camera. I'm actually more impressed with the Casio's photos.

I expected to keep the Fuji 'for best', but now I think I'll sell it & just use the Casio.

Early days, but so far I'm impressed with the EX-H5. Thanks to the OP.
