Found 12th Jun 2010
Tesco are selling the Casio fx-85ES Scientific Calculator for only £2.50!! This would certainly see kids through school. Normally these are around £5 or £6.

Instore only - can't find on Tesco direct.

Afraid I bought the remaining 4 at the Kilbirnie store!

But they are rubbish, with poor build quality.

I got one of these yesterday in Colchester, looks a very good calculator for 2.50

You are doing the exact same as me......... What are the chances????

I just took F2 and E2 for my final managerial levels. They were not to bad this year, but I have heard on the CIMA forums P2 was a pain in the backside! (If you did that one)!

Aside, its a great deal, I have the calculator and it has never let me down! At this price, you cant go wrong!

Its as high a spec as you can have in exams, so why pay more?

Someone else posted the same deal at an other store last month. My local Tesco did not have any then.

The Poundland/99pStores offerings are horrible to use and a far cry from these Casios. You can pay £10 for a Casio fx-85ES so this is a real bargain price. The only near substitute is the Wilkinsons own brand scientific with pretty much the same functions and key-pad layout but a worse display.

Good price. If I was a scientist, I'd buy one...

Fair nuff - I'm a great casio fan; but for occasional scientific users (like me!), the £1 cheapo would be enough. Should have said that upfront, sorry.

Boiling hot. I dunno, when I were a lad scientitifc calculators cost a fortune!

Now it is just the graphing calculators which cost a fortune.

what's the scientific bit all about? surely its cheaper just to use your calculator that is pretty much standard on all mobiles. they can do add, subtract, times and divide, - what more do you need?

anyone have the barcode? you can scan it on the terminals around the store to get a price. (see if they have it reduced)

depends if we look at the actual monetary saving £2.50 or percentage discount (50%).

half price usually gets good heat!

Great! Just in time for my C3 exam!

Time to upgrade from my FX-83MS!

very hot i got mines for about £6 ages ago same one sooo very good deal !!!

Good deal, had to pay a tenner for mine a few years ago. Can't fault Casio's build quality.

Good calculator, the reason it is reduced so heavily is that Casio have replaced it with the FX85GT. This adds a couple of features but the 85ES is a good calculator...

good price , but i get mines for free from school :P cant beat that

bargain, saw these today at tesco midsomer norton. bottom shelf, opposite the ink cartridges/computer stuff

You bought 4 calculators?

Fun.

Passed up a similar deal last time 'cos I'd rather that some kid bought it for their school work.

Only problem with this calculator is it slows down when you have a big expression typed in, meaning it will miss numbers out if you enter them too fast.

I'm a maths teacher. These are for some pupils that don't have much.

I just hoped it would get more use

Also one of the few calculators that are regularly approved for university examinations, I'll be using one in my Fluid and Planar mech exam tomorrow!

It's true about them slowing down, enter a large equation and you have to press buttons slowly...

It has a useful feature in its ability to display fractions neatly. And displays answers in simplified form (multiples of pi etc), useful for mid-calculation figures.

These are the good ones, be careful of the model below without the solar-panel on top, they have a problem with a lose circuit after a while which means you have to bang against the table to get it working.

these calcs are great for showing the answers as surds or in terms of pi, brilliant for anyone doing A-Level or even GCSE maths exams. Inputting equations is much easier on these than older or cheaper ones too, since you dont need to use so many brackets to get the right answer!

And LOL @ the person that said use your phone and who needs anything apart from divide or times :L

these are on offer because they have brought out a new model,i dont know what the difference is between this one and the new one thoiugh. unfortunately ipaid £8 for this a few years ago

Sucks, now that my exams are over these are for sale.

This: casio.co.uk/Pro…es/

vs the new one:

Things like factorisation into prime numbers and function verification. The newer one sells at 8.50 quid in Amazon.
