They are probably getting rid of overstock that didn't sell as hoped, …They are probably getting rid of overstock that didn't sell as hoped, similar to Wilko here, but see the latter's price!!Casio fx-83GT PLUS Scientific Calculator £1 @ Wilko instore

This is a different model, the Wilko one is the outdated one this is new, these are reduced in express stores only because it's not usually stocked there and is only for b2s promo

Is it because there are more than adequate scientific calculator apps available for the ubiquitous phone that every kid now has?
I speak as someone who mastered log tables and slide rules, but left school b4 pocket calculators existed and has never seen the need for a scientific calculator in the (my) real world.

No. These calculators pretty much only exist for exams and school, in which phones aren't allowed.

Although children in schools generally aren't allowed and can't be trusted to have their phones put during school times and how would you suppose kids do exams using their phone as a calculator?
Just a quick heads up that whilst this looks like the similar FX-991EX (in a light grey case), now the standard for A Level Maths, that this calculator is not suitable for A Level.

I'm not saying there aren't scientific calculator apps what I'm saying is that how would it be possible for them to use it in an exam...
These are £3.75 in Tesco Metro on the high street in Dundee. There were seven, but I bought one so that leaves... Bear with me, I just need to take it out of the packaging.
