I thought I got a good deal shortly after it launched, paid £114
I converted it into a G steel (left).

Good deal, heat!

Shame they don't have a positive display version at this price, I'm not keen on the lack of visibiity on these negative ones.

I paid £79 for this watch last week and I thought it was damn good for the money at that price
Great price

Yeah its not the best display in the world but the auto light function somewhat makes it better imo

My issue is more in the daylight, but auto light helps with the evenings
Negative Casio displays (light digits on a dark background) in general have worse visibility. They can look great in the right conditions but overall are harder to see. Something to be aware of. Definitely in the "try before you buy" category. Some love them.

I would buy this in a heart beat if it were not for the blue surround on the face.
Heat but the blue mirrored finish is a no no for me

I had this watch temporarily and the blue is a really light oceany turquoise. Slightly different to the photos imo. I didn't like it, which is mostly why it went back.
Very tempted as this is a cracking deal but already bought one less than 3 months ago
Great deal. Heat added.

Any 5600 is a great watch. Can't go wrong with this version. Solar, BT, Multi-Band 6.

How about the all black one with composite bracelet for £103 (RRP£199) : watchshop.com/cas…tml and I see that Amazon have now price-matched.

Got that watch, paid a lot more last Xmas. The negative display takes some effort but great watch for the money
Like the look of it, very retro, my alternative.

I am indeed one of the some!

This watch is fantastic value for money! Should sell well at this ridiculous price!

I looked at the expensive all metal looking watch but after looking at specs it's seemed as if the extra £300 was simply to have the same g -shock available for £120 but in a flashy case. Can you tell me the differences between the two besides the housing?

Do you think that changing the case would compromise the waterproof aspect of the watch?

100 quid is great for that! I got the 5600bb basic one with some vouchers from work and I'm happy with it, will need to change battery every few years but it's the nicest looking one imo

Yep, as another suggested, they can be found on AliExpress, not cheap at around £50, but the quality is immense. Plus it’s a lot cheaper that the proper g steel. I got it for roughly £40 on deal actually.

The real G steel is made in Japan, and the whole case is steel, not just the housing and bracelet. Also the the case back is a proper screw back, not a stamped plate with 4 little screws.

Was it hard to fit the housing over the buttons? I've only ever messed with the rubber ones and was thinking about getting a metal one.
Here's one on the 5610 bought from Aliexpress

What you see from the front of a square G-Shock (indeed most models) is just an external bezel, it's not part of the watch case. Not structural, not part of the waterproofing. It gives bump protection to the actual case which lies underneath.

So you just remove the existing one and put on the metal aftermarket one. Be sure to get the correct size because there are several versions to suit slightly different dimensions and button layout of 5600E, M5610 etc.

Nope, unlike the resin faceplate, the steel cutouts aren't circular, but straight through cutouts;

Off the top of my head I don't think that's the case. This one has bluetooth built in which the 5610 lacks and share the same features other than that I think.
Shoobz10/10/2019 19:38

Not really? It’s exactly the case with the vast majority of watches. Half the watch world runs on a handful of movements from Seiko/ETA/Sellita, much of the differentiation happens in the case, strap and dial - nothing wrong with charging more for a better made item. All that said, this deal is cracking value.

Nope as above, this has BT and is otherwise the same spec. Cracking deal, if on the fence just but it, will get your money back selling it later if you decide to ditch it after the returns period.

Yes I am aware of that fact. I understand paying a premium for the finish. But when you are paying nearly £400 more just for a strap and case (in my eyes) that's madness. To have an identical module, and simply be paying for the aesthetics is not fair pricing to me. But if they can get away with it then so be it.

Erm it’s not just a finish, or an aesthetic, it’s an entirely different case and bracelet, made from a different material and of much better quality. Whether the price is right is subjective of course and you may well be right in saying it’s overpriced, but let’s not describe it as if they’d just recoloured the resin.

Also if it helps, there are other changes as well. The metal G has a superior screw down caseback, better shockproofing; and a superior display. I used to own one myself but sold on as it was just too blingy for me. A great watch though, felt like it was worth the money in my opinion.
