Good price, i paid about 15 quid for this at halfords about a month ago!
Bloody expensive stuff but worth it to keep your engine well

Just bought 7 litres of the stuff to perform an oil change this weekend, like you say, is around £14 elsewhere.

Don't know why this is being voted cold, some people might like putting cheaper oil into their car but doesn't change the fact this is a good price.

Tesco is the best place for quality oil CastrolMagnatec synthetic motor oil 5w30 £9.99 for 2 liters

It should be noted that this isn't your usual magnatec oil though, its a high specification oil for diesel cars, not petrol..

It's a different range of Oil which isn't such high quality and is also a different viscocity to the one I have listed, so not comparible. The oil I listed is £13.97 at Tesco's

£10 for only 1 litre seems like a total con to me. I only ever use good quality oil myself (usually Castrol infact) but this stuff is taking the p**s a bit. Yeah its fully synthetic but still seems like clever marketing to me. Here's some of its supposed selling points..

# Lasts longer - stays in grade
# Performs under extreme conditions
# Free flowing from the moment you start the engine
# Releases power
# Improves fuel economy
# Protects against wear (no way!, really??)
# Improves engine performance even through extended service intervals
# Easy to start in all weather
# Protects from the moment you start the engine
# Improves acceleration
# Reduces fuel consumption leading to lower running costs
# Reduces engine wear - peace of mind against breakdown ("Protects against wear" same as above then)

"Releases power" and "Improves acceleration" :whistling:

Still cheaper than anywhere else I've seen so I suppose its a good deal if you got to have this stuff.

I acknowledge there are cheaper oils' available and that's why I guess people are voting it cold, but some people like myself would prefer to stick to the manufacturers recommendations. Must be a load of cheapskates on here! :p:whistling:

Apologies, my mistake.. thought this was the edge diesel stuff as it looks identical to the one i bought in the little picture!

Diesel has "black" cap
Petrol has "red" cap

this is a good price, but it has always been at this price at Morrissons!

to all cold voters, this is no ordinary oil and it may not even be needed in your car.

however, if you need this oil spec and want Castrol then this is the lowest i've seen anywhere for 1L.

having said that you can buy this grade oil, Fuchs SuperSyn fully synth from GSF for around £25 for 4 litres.

you get a hot vote from me for posting the deal, i could never be bothered. well done.

£10 a lt is a rip off for any oil.Try National tyres there doing an oil and filter change with this oil for around £34 online price. That works out at about £5 a litre with oil filter.

Erm, ok.....what do you suggest they say about their oil? These are all pretty good points to be honest, the cheaper oils won't even do half of them properly!

Voted Hot. Good deal if you have the need for the Castrol Edge version. All of castrols Oils I have used have always performed well. I use Castrol GTX in my older car and use Castrol Magnatec in my other car. I would probably buy the edge version if I had a vehicle that required it.

It really is false economy not to use the correct oil in your engine . Voted hot.

This is a good price if you really feel you need this. With modern engines having incredibly fine tolerances oil spec is crucial. I read that BMW are making bottom ends 'sealed' as the tolerances are too tight for a machine shop to match......:x

What really annoys me is that high quality oils like this (Mobil One for instance) are almost half the price in French hypermarkets.
Buy your oil in bulk when next in France.

Few cars need this oil, whether or not people think they do. Bargain right now is Fuchs Titan supersyn 4 litres for about £18 at GSF, was mentioned previously but the wrong price. Shame the 1 litre extra most people need is a further £8!

that was me, is the price for 0w-30 fully synth? not having a go, i know that there are different types of Fuchs, and the one that matches Castrol Edge LL01 was £25-ish.

My apologies; you might be right, I was talking about 5W40 titan supersyn, not 0W30 which of course might be more expensive.

Still doesn't change that Castrol Edge in your average car is completely wasted but people pay for a "perceived" improvement. There obviously IS an improvement for your average modern car using a fully synthetic long life oil compared to a semi-synthetic. Any improvement between a good fully synth and the Castrol Edge in all but a few cars will be imagination only.

But I guess we're supposed to be saying whether or not it's a good price, not a good product. In which case, these are Halford prices:

4 litre: 0W30 £43.99 (petrol or turbodiesel version)
4 litre: 5W40 turbodiesel (option for a large proportion of turbodiesel engines) £38.99.
etc. etc.

But since oil has become even more complicated with longlife, variable service lengths and so on, I would advise people to use a site like:
opieoils.co.uk/

To find an advised product.

God I hate stupid people. :x

Neilmick, I don't know what you mean but I believe you will see that for most people, Castrol Edge is pointless, hence "voting cold" - few cars have it as a recommended product. You don't buy oil by brand name, you buy it by grade and any required specifications.

If people are voting cold because they do not need this particular oil for their engine, they have got the wrong end of the stick.
