With ever increasing fuel prices at the pumps, it is more vital than ever before to be economic when driving. Altering your driving style, ensuring tyres are topped up and using the correct engine oil all help improve a car’s fuel economy.
When selecting the right engine oil, it’s good to know the brand you choose is widely acknowledged as the World’s leading specialist provider of lubricant solutions. Castrol was found by Charles Cheers Wakefield in 1899, who passionately believed in working alongside his customers to develop the right products and services. He had the foresight to recognise that prosperity for both parties would be best achieved in partnership. This philosophy remains as successful and as relevant at Castrol today as it was then.

Castrol Edge 5W-30 is to be used with the latest Volkswagen and Audi engines, including those that use Longlife servicing. It helps provide consistently high fuel economy under most driving conditions whilst reducing engine wear, giving you peace of mind against breakdowns and delivering reduced cost of ownership. Thanks op. Ordered.

I just bought last night 7 x 1 Litre 5w30 Edge bottles from Tesco Garage for £2.75 each.

Guy gave me a weird look until I explained to him that it just saved me £50!

Probably nationwide but limited availability as the deal has been posted several times over the last few weeks.

Ordered some from them 2 weeks ago, got 20% off original full price using a code that may still be around plus free filters at the time so it was a great buy.

likewise - but it was 5W15 from memory - wasnt it?

This oil is designed for VW / Audi / Skoda / Seat PD Diesel cars and can be costly, as you can see. The biggest problem is that you will need between 4.3 and 4.7 litres to refill the engine if you're doing an oil change, and this bottle is therefore not enough.

We have 2 cars that need this spec oil, but I buy mine from David @ Sere Motors in Northern Ireland (a Seat dealer). The last lot I bought about 8 weeks ago was £22 for the Quantum 5 litre bottle (which is the stuff that the dealer garages use and is distributed by TPS which is the VW/VAG Group distribution network). The downside is you will have to stump up £10 postage, but at £32 for 5 litres this works out much better. David will also be able to send you out genuine oil filters/sump plugs/etc at a price you will pay for the Fram stuff you pay from your local factors (if not cheaper) in the same parcel without extra postage.
Not sure whether I can Google him on the seatcupra.net forum, or click:

Different oil which is designed for Fords. You can use ASDA/Tesco/Halfords stuff cheap enough for that. I bought loads of the Castrol Magnatec at £1.50 per 1 litre bottle earlier this year for the old diesel focus we have to run about in.
Unfortunate;y the VW spec oil 505 / 507 spec is considerably more expensive.

for 25% off use "parts25" and dont forget your 5% TCB X)

Bought some Tesco branded 5W30 C3 a few weeks ago (need C3 for a DPF vehicle). Looks like the same spec but it was about £17 for 4 litres. Don't be fooled by marketing just because it says Castrol on it. With oil, spec is everything.

I was tempted to buy the same stuff Castrol Edge 5w30 from Euro car parts but saw this one while browsing on Amazon for Forte Diesel Turbo cleaners. You can get the same stuff from Euro car parts for £29.98 using 31% off code MM31 which works for certain other parts as well plus TCB. I ordered a Bosch oil filter for my Passat for £3,24 from carparts4less.co.uk which is a sister website of Euro car parts though much cheaper parts as had been posted before on HUKD.

If you have a TDI engine in your car then you don't take chances by going for a cheaper engine oil and cheaper supermarket fuel. I know its a bit dearer than other brands but in the long run it works out better by giving better mileage and taking better care of your engine.

Castrol Edge for £2.75 per litre is a super duper bargain ................ never seen such price. will pop into my nearest tesco as I may need it for the future.
Also I have always bought the 4L pack for oil change for my passat and dont have to buy an extra 1 L pack but some other cars may need between 4 and 5 litre oil.

Thanks for the info. I read it somewhere that Quantumn is the same stuff as Castrol made by Castrol for VW group in a different packaging and different brand name. Even the oil finder/matcher option on Quantumn website is the same as Castrol's.
