Wasn't aware that this oil was reduced and posted previously for £12+ but was able to pick up 3 in Antrim reduced even further to £5.50...so quite a bargain by my standards

Date on the bottom should be the production date - there isn't an expiry date on Castrol oil; it's recommended to be used within 5 years of the date on the bottom.

Very bizarre to be such a low price.

There's a good chance you can use 5w40 instead, it's not a big difference. I know on mine it says both. At normal UK temperature the 5w40 will be a little thicker, but won't damage anything. If you can get some for £5.50 I wouldn't be afraid to use it.
