Dirt cheap

Check this grade is suitable for your car, might work well on older cars (6+ years) that previously took 5/30

I paid £12.99 for this in my local Tesco on Monday!

Good deal. Tempted to check in toTesco and get some.

Stock up if you change the oil. Bargain at £7 for 5 litres.

Don't get this one confused with the Castor Oil offer

Bargain this

VAG's (VW Audi Group) own oil is about £9 for 5 Liters but has to be brought in bulk
(its the same oil afaik, or is it Mobil1 & Vauxhall's is the castrol?)
Either way its cheap & heat from me

GTX is good QUALITY oil but won't be suitable for a lot of recent, high tech engines.

Read the 'RTC' at the bottom of that sticker - its 'Reduced To Clear', so it is unlikely it will be available in other stores.

That's an enormous conclusion to make. It actually means it's likely to be that price wherever there is still stock and that hasn't been established yet!

Talk about giving up before you've started!

totally pointless posting it then if the person doesnt say which store

I bought this in the St.Austell store this morning

Anyone tried to find it? Successfully / Unsuccessfully?

10w40 is (yes its very vague and depends totally on the cars in question) generally for pre 2000ish cars.

5w30, 0w30 are more common grades now, fully synthetic long life stuff.

I've found oil has gone up a lot recently at trade prices, from <£2 a litre for good 5w30 to nearly £3 a litre.

10w40 is merely the viscosity index and not the only thing you should check.

Also check the ACEA codes. This is A3/B4.
If your vehicle handbook requires A4/B5, give this a miss.

I wouldn't contemplate putting this in my rather old turbo charged car.

This is store specific. I called (or thought I was calling my local store) and was told it was in stock and was indeed £3 but when I went into the store (Southport), the price was £12.99 and the manager would not reduce the price. He said what had likely happened was that the store didn't pick up within 4 rings and it goes to a call centre who have incorrectly stated that it is nationwide. He recommended I ring them and complain which I will be doing tomorrow.

I think I'll pop down to Tesco and buy some. Might also buy some hen's teeth and a pint of unicorn tears while I'm there. No point wasting a trip.

Picked this up at the Harlow store for £3

What store in Harlow? Was there any left?
Thanks.

Not a suitable oil for newer vehicles.

Better to pay attention to ACEA specification rather than brand name.

Edinburgh Way store. To be precise it was in the petrol garage and they had 2 or 3 left on the shelf

I got 8 bottles in Sheffield Woodseats (metro) branch, they said they had more in the warehouse.

I got this in Shaftbury Tesco for £3, but it's £12.99 in Yeovil so hit and miss where has it.

acea code........... whats that all about??

changing the oil is hard enoough without chucking in more details!

The ACEA code gives an indication of oil quality. Ensure the oil has a number the same or higher than that specified in your car handbook. Otherwise it may degrade.

I have seen people put GTX in small turbo diesel engines, when a quick glance at the back of the can and the vehicle handbook indicated it was (at that time) not suitable for those vehicles.

I would rather spend the money on oil, rather than turbo chargers and engine rebuilds. So it's synthetic oil only for my old diesel engine.

At this price, it's cheaper than KY jelly

Load of Rubbish, went ot Rugby, no offer. These supermarket offers are a waste if time. Just stick to spot buying and stop putting them on hear and wasting other peoples time.

This offer has been found in St Austell, Harlow, Edinborough, Sheffield, Shaftesbury, etc.
Just because you check one store and don't find it doesn't mean its a "waste of time".

Got some today from Tesco St Austell in the petrol station. Hubby says it's fine for his car :-)
