Castrol GTX is 75% off to £6.49 down from £25.99 in Sainsburys.

This is very very cheap for 4 litres!

This is normally around the £25 mark in Asda/Sainsburys/Garages.

Spec:
Castrol GTX is one of the world's most trusted engine oils. It's more than just oil. It's Liquid Engineering that protects against problems that engines face every day, like high temperature wear.

Why is this protection important? Because the high temperatures caused by stop-start driving, reduce the ability of ordinary oils to protect against wear, decreasing engine life.

Tested and approved to European Automobile Constructors Association (ACEA) and American Petroleum Institute (API) specifications. Approved to Volkswagen and Mercedes Benz specifications.

Castrol GTX 10W-40 A3/B3 is suitable for use in automotive gasoline and diesel engines where the manufacturer recommends ACEA A3/B3 or API SL/CF 10W-40 oil.

is it for diesel or Petrol ?

10 - 40 petrol

Fantastic price. While only the basic / bottom of the range Castrol oil, it IS Castrol and therefore much better than the rubbish supermarket oils that are sometimes posted on here.

"The Castrol GTX product range features lubricants for vehicles with proven engine technology and provides a balanced performance under all types of conditions."

decent price but it miffs me off how the oil makers all started doing 4ltr cans when nearly all cars take over 4ltrs - if I was a cynic I'd say they do it on purpose because of that reason ;-)

Still full price in my local Sainsburys!

awesome price if you can find it

Funny how this started happening isnt it :x I know for a fact my Astra needs 5 - 5.5l for an oil change

WTF?!? That link recommended Castrol Edge (top of the range Fully Synthetic EXPENSIVE oil) for my Type R (which is fair enough), and also for my wife's crappy Suzuki Alto 1.1 shopping trolley.

If you followed that recommendation you'd be a muppet, and a much poorer muppet at that!

Just buy 3 and you have enough for 2 services.... still cheaper than getting it anywhere else!

Lol you lord it up in a CTR while punishing the missus with a Alto, love it

Not on offer at my local Sainsburys :x

I was in by chance the other day and picked up a 1litre bottle of 10w-40 4T Power 1 motorbike oil for £3 reduced from about £10??, which I thought was a bargain, and the guy was removing the whole lot from the shelf and reducing all the prices including GTX.

Excellent price.Voted hot.

Does the Suzuki have long life servicing or something?

Bit of a bargain this, will have to get the girlfriend to have a look as she needs some for her Swift :-D

Although like the others here she needs 4.5l *grumble*

most large sainsbury's supermarkets don't even stock car accessories/car maintenance stuff unlike Asda and Tesco's. I always have a job trying to find the correct aisle. I've noticed it's only the out of town super large hypermarket type ones like you have in London Colney and Calcot (nr. reading) that stock a full range of motoring stuff. I mentioned those 2 as they are the closest to West London. I suppose Alperton is fairly large aswell. anyone got any idea in which aisle/dept. this would be found in. I'm thinking household stuff?

also would like to mention that this ideal for cars suffering periodic oil leaks (to top up) rather than actual full oil changes (due to the 4 ltr size).

Brillant,
my car only requires 4L for a full oil change! Very handy

HA HA HA! Same for my Citroen Picasso! Surely it just defaults to the most expensive oil they do. Fully synthetic - yeah right!

if only I could get some long life bmw oil (diesel engines) for this price!!

Ideal, I pay about £15-£20 for the same in Costco to keep my old 1.9 gti topped up due to a leaky oil cooler!

BOTH. As stated in the description at the top of the page.

I really hope you're sure about that :?

Having a larger amount of oil can only be a good thing (provided it is all at same temp etc)

2.6l sounds very low..

picture and price tag both confirm this is in fact diesel oil not petrol - i also have the new fn2 civic type R and can confirm it does need castrol edge 0 - 30 synthetic oil so this would be no good

Is this for diesel cars only then?

Got Mine plus was a tub with 50% free!

Just coz it's a shopping trolley doesn't mean the engine technology doesn't need the high tech stuff (though I'd be suspicious too).

Changing your engine oil more often and using good stuff is probably the single best way to extend your engine's life.

LOL! The irony is that I have to drive the Alto to work and back during the week to save money on petrol! The missus gets the Type R all week, and I just get to play at weekends!

Called into Sainsburys store in Cardiff in thornhill and its only sold in petrol stations...they said price hadn't changed and scanned it to check...phoned the other petrol station near Newport Road and they said price hadnt changed, must just be in some stores unfortunately....cheapest i found was in my local Tesco Superstore, when both diesel and petrol 4l is £16...however the petrol one has an extra 1l free so you get 5l for £16...not as good but still a decent price

Will probably go to Sainsbury's tomorrow (was going to go anyway) to have a look.
