No it isnt!

Is this at all the asda s does anyone know

Excellent price - ASDA seem to cycle their price £20 > £12 > £20 > £12.

This isn't 'Energy Conserving' so works fine in motorcycles as well as cars.
Used it in my Bandit 600 and now my DRZ 400, as well as our Astra and Honda HR-V.

Time to top up!

this is the wrong grade/viscosity oil for all of those vehicles

Is it on 5w30?

veralum

this is the wrong grade/viscosity oil for all of those vehicles

*Wrong* HR-V is 15W40

If you bother to look at ADSA website then you will see that all the 4L GTX is at this price

Astra; 5W30
HR-V; 15W40
Bandit / DRZ; 10W40

I suppose some numpty could post deals for each of the oil viscosities on offer. Or we could post sensibly against one deal.

This Oil is perfect for the Bandit DRZ Astra & Honda, change every 6000 miles, Synthetic oils allow higher mileage oil changes. If you are not sure what viscosity is correct for your vehicle check here,

Good advice.
On the bikes I prefer to change every 1000 miles, regardless of the oil type. At £6 an oil change this it's well worth it.

since when did honda and suzuki reccomend mineral oils? thought it was all synth or semi synth, for few quid more there are much better oils available, this oil is very old tech stuff , ok for bangers! and its only 4 litres, a false economy

Is this Fully Synthetic?

5w 30

This oil is semi synthetic.

veralum is correct. GTX is the cheapest mineral oil (not semi synthetic) that Castrol offer, and £12 for four litres is not cheap. If you care about your engine, at the very least use Magnatec, but Castrol Edge is the "real deal".

If it isn't semi synth, then why does it say part synthetic on the can ?

just because it was 20 and is no 12 does not make it a bargain go to any moter factors and you will get goo
dg oil all the time this price, this is a lower grade oil and will not work with todays modern engines

Used it in my Bandit 600 and now my DRZ 400,

Please make certain that any 'car' oil you are thinking of using in your bike is suitable; as well as lubricating the engine, m/c oil is designed to run through a gearbox and a wet clutch... car oils are not designed operate in these conditions and can result in clutch slip/wear and long chain molecules get chopped up after extended running through inter-meshing gears. In short, there's more to it than just the viscosity grade.

think about it, "part" or "semi" if i were to give you part of my £1,000,000 lottery win or half of it, how much would part be? (i havent won amillion really)

You could say that about any semi synthetic oil..... if this oil was only mineral oil, then it wouldn't say part synthetic on the can.

Must admit, i only ever use motorcycle specific oil in my bikes.......... but i know plenty of bikers that do use this Castrol GTX in their bikes and claim they never have any ill effects from it.
So i'm prepared to accept that its a possibility its fine in motorcycles.

both the magnatec 0w30 are fully synthetic the 0w40 is part synthetic, far better spec than GTX

for less than 18 quid

There are many oil companies saying you can extend your oil change interval. This is wrong, for two reasons. First, if you have a warranty on your car, then not following the manufacturer's guidelines will void your warranty. Secondly, there are two concerns with motor oil: first, the lubricative capacity of the base oil; second, and more importantly, the life of the chemical additive package. The thing is, the additives, things like detergents and anti-oxidants are specifically made to get used up over time, and regardless of whether the oil is conventional or synthetic, they are both the *exact same* API SM package, and will deplete at the same rate. So, if your manufacturer says change the oil every 3,000 miles (few still do), then that is when the engineers expect that additive package to be depleted and need to be replaced (a.k.a. oil change).

Going back to the "lubricative capacity of the base oil" -- technically, yes, any synthetic oil, Mobil1 or otherwise, will outlast any conventional oil. BUT...having said that...any conventional oil will lubricate well beyond the life of the car (unless, of course, the oil is burned or leaked out of the engine). That is why you can get recycled oil from Valvoline and SuperTech. The oil being drained out of your car is just fine, it simply needs to be chemically "cleaned" and additives added/rejuvenated.

Be sure to read the professional articles, not the forums!

For them wot are confused....

Vitrually all 15W40 & 20W50 oils are all mineral oil
Most 10W40 & 10W30 oils contain about 30% synthetic (hydrocracked) base oil with the balance being mineral
Most European 5W30 & 5W40 oils are full synthetic (hydrocracked) base oil. US oils are different.
All 0W20, 0W30, 0W30 oils are full synthetic and often contain some Poly-Alpha-Olefin base oil to get the ultra-low cold flow properties.

The additive packages which go into all oils are all much the same (dispersants, ZDDP, detergents, anti-oxidants). The rate at which they deplete as often as not depends on how bad the fuel your using is and how much fuel you use over the oil drain period. Most petrol & diesel is the UK is pretty damn good so oils tend to last longer than they should.

Your engine is just a big lump of metal. Not being sentient, it does not 'know' what oil you are putting in it. You can put virtually any oil you like in to it and it will work. Thinner oils tend to give you better fuel economy and allow you to drive through an Arctic blizzard but that's about it.

GTX 15W40 is a very good oil and I should know.

All clear. Good.
