Saw this on display at the end of an isle, pretty good price compared to others. I didn't buy any as my car is recommended semi-synthetic so don't see the point in switching.

Yes, cheaper oils available, I use Triple QX as I'm a cheapskate, but I also do regular oil changes. I WOULD buy this to try if it was my spec.

Full synthetic oil ? Castrol GTX ?

Are you getting confused? The 5W30 in your photogragh will definitely be full synthetic but for as long as I can remember, GTX 10W40 was a semi-synthetic.

where is this / any other tescos selling - my car takes 7 liters of this stuff , £9 is a bargain for magnatec

Look below. There's already a deal for the magnatec stuff.

Wouldn't it say on the bottle "semi synthetic" if it were that? There's clearly 2 different types on sale when you Google this oil

ok for petrols
better off with 5l packs for the average diesel that needs 4.5l
Castrol and Tescos own are only 4l

What you talking about ? There are 2 different types of Magnatec but GTX is semi-synthetic oil, so your deal description is wrong.
"Synthetic Technology" on the bottle doesn't mean it's fully synthetic oil

Yes, I can see from your photogragh that there's an offer on Magnatec 5W30 (for £9 for 2 litres) and one below for GTX 10W40 (for £6 for 2 litres).

I'm happily retired now but a few years ago I was formulating GTX for a living. GTX was always semi-synthetic. Here's the blurb from the Castrol website...

http://www.castrol.com/en_gb/united-kingdom/car-engine-oil/engine-oil-brands/castrol-gtx/gtx-product-page.html

This is a simple SL/CF/A3/B4/MB229.1/VW505 oil which is more or less what it's been for the last 15 years. Do be aware of words on the can like 'Synthetic Technology'. This does not mean it's a full synthetic oil. It just means is contains 'some' synthetic (Group III, hydrocracked) base oil. I know of one oil (not GTX) from another oil major that advertised itself as 'synthetic technology' where 'some' was a meagre 30% and the balance was bog standard mineral oil.

Voting hot because this is a good price for a very good oil.
