Went into Homebase in Weston Super Mare today and the Castrol Edge which was on offer has now all sold out, however as i was their the Castrol Magnatec 10w 40 Diesel - 1 Litre was having the shelf price changed from about £12 to £2.98.

Hopefully Nationwide to like the Castrol Edge offer.

Their were about 10 on the shelf with all the other engine oils in the normal motoring section.

Same item is £10.99 @ Halfords. Didnt buy myself as my car needs 5w 30.

What's the difference between normal oil and diesel oil? I knew I'd seen it before but when I asked about it in a ford dealership the bloke looked at me like I'd asked for a glass hammer!

Diesel oils have superior detergents to cope with the higher levels of contaminants produced in the engine. Its no problem using diesel oils in a petrol, but not petrol oils in a diesel.

I've just been into my local Homebase store and they didnt even sell any car oil, however I got a member of staff to check and he did a search and said it was discontinued and had been for some time, it was still coming up at full price and he said that it would be the store managers choice to price what ever stock they had down to anything he liked, he did a region check and no stores in the northwest where showing stock of it so it's a cold from me i'm afraid.

discounts available online too.. though not as much

I'm glad you said that, the bloke in the dealership told me that the normal stuff was fine for my 318 diesel.
