I help people out on here whenever I can. I give my experience and advice on anything I'm able to, and regularly PM people who ask questions. There's more than one way to contribute on here - I'm pretty sure taking the whole supply of a deal and selling it on at a profit isn't one.

great deal
They had these in our local Tesco at £17.00.
Looks like it should have been £4.25/ litre, but they’ve marked yours up at £4.25 for the 4 litre, so yes even more of a bargain!
The funny think is that oil is not like food, in that it never goes off! Totally bargain if you can get it Thanks OP I will have a look tomorrow, but I don't hold out much hope I never seem to get these type deals!
I would have had them all at that price. Could easy sell them at a tenner a piece

Well, if you'd found it there would be no hot deal to post. And if everyone did this, there would be no point in the site at all. This logic, Captain, defeats the point of HUKD. Besides, there's more to life than making a profit out of everything

Ok mate. Didn't need your life story.
Worth grabbing 2 if possible, bigger engines use more than 4l. My 2.0t uses nearer 5.5l

The 'funny think' is that motor oil DOES have a limited shelf life! About 5 years if stored correctly:

That is just a blog which contains no actual scientific analysis. Even then, all it effectively says is that providing the oil is clear and not contaminated it's fine to use.

OK: you put some ancient, cheap oil in your expensive motor but I'll stick to the fresh stuff, thanks. Not saying this Tesco oil is old anyway but Proeright's comment needed correcting: there is a useful shelf life to motor oil.
From the blog in the link "If the bottle of motor oil remains unopened, it stays stable for a longer time."

When I posted that oil never goes off, so is always worth stocking up on when at bargain prices, I was also assuming the law of the bleeding obvious , only new unopened ones, stored not in a Freezer or next to an oven nor in high humidity. Ie in a garage would be fine!

Lighten up matey!

PS Seven years on HUKD without posting a single deal seems to conflict with your statement.

Exactly helping others is a good deed. In Mark 10:45 God says :
For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

Good point. I haven't noticed that with un-opened motor oil, but once it's been opened it doesn't last more than around five years. I know this because I did a clear out of my garage. I had about 4 different opened containers. Although the lids were on properly, the oil was visibly darker than the unopened one. I guess it starts breaking down over time. Probably get longer if it's unopened
Oil under the ground for millions of years, we get it out and decide it will not last five minutes before it needs to be used.....

Ah that never even occurred to me and explains a lot! Good point!

5 Years is a rough shelf life of oil but pretty sure a year either way wouldn't matter - it has a shelf life due to the additives and stabilizers used in it!
Must be store specific, no such deal when I looked in Tesco tonight
Would it be OK to put this in a car that calls for 5w 30 normally. I know this is thicker and 5w 30 is better for winter conditions
If your car is old, like mine, put any rating of oil into it - makes no difference really.

I have a 2003 Micra & the owner manual says 5W-20 for improve fuel economy but NOT recommend for sustain high speed driving. Plus, 5W-30 for ambient temperature below +15 degree Celsius & 10W-30/40/50 for ambient temperature above -20 degree Celsius.

I think it's best to get guidance from manufacturer's manual for your engine type.
