oil is oil, unless you own an ariel aton which has a red line at 10,600 rpm

Nope. Absolutely terrible advice. Not for today's cars that have turbochargers, complex fuel injection systems, DPFs, etc.

Get the oil that's specified for your car and nothing else!

Great price
Thanks op
Got 5w30 fully synthetic for £13 for 4l in Tesco the other day. Admittedly it's their own brand but regardless what some may say "oil is oil" so long as it meets the spec for your vehicle C3 etc. My cars done 193,000 miles on supermarket fuel and oil and the only major fault had been front sub-frame corrosion (Zafira A and B diesel common issue)

Asda's own brand stuff on offer too... 5w30 vaux was £15 for 5ltr.... the ford 5w30 was out (but you can use the vaux stuff )

My car has a turbo, fuel injection, DPF etc. However I thought this was the usual Magnatec not the fully synthetic stuff so it's a far better deal than I got. Just because it's got Tesco or Asda on the bottle doesn't mean it doesn't meet the specs. The important things are the characteristics of the oil and the standards it meets, not the seller.

Arial Aton, is that like an Arial Atom?

Most motorcycles rev to this and beyond yet the oil is usually of a lower specification and contains fewer additives than your average car motor oil. 10,600 rpm barely above tick over.

Arial Aton to Arial Atom is what Arial Atom is to a Ariel Atom.

That wasn't my argument. "Oil is oil" implies using the cheapest oil you can find regardless of its grade.

like many here, I look out for the cheapest I can find (5W40 C3 in my case). Whether it's Castrol Magnatec, Total Quartz INEO, or whatever. As long as it meets that spec.

There's a BIG difference between Hellfrauds semi synthetic and the likes of Mobil 1 or Miller's competition fully synthetic of the same grade, I can assure you
Well i got my car with 41,000 miles on it......it has now done 172,000 and in that time it has had one oil change ......I top up (not often) when needed, with whatever is on special at Tesco/Asda.....The engine is smooth, quiet and smoke free.......My motto is "Don't change your oil" (Said in the same way Trigger said "Look after your broom")

Just think of all the extra wear on the engine because you haven't changed the oil.

172,000?...... It's doing well....no ticking, still smooth, no smoke.......More than had my money's worth.

Is that so we don't accidently buy it?

Castrol magnatec is semi or part synthetic. Look at the German bottles of castrol magnatc ....they have to tell the truth but us mugs in the uk can take any old lies. The real deal is castrol edge.
I have been looking at this in store since last week and was unsure on whether I’m best getting the synthetic? I have a Seat Leon FR diesel, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Heat added
5w 40 same price aswell.
There's also normal gtx 5w 40 for 8.50

Loads in Hamilton store if a hones looking near.

Nice one Paulhollio
Was also Available in Kirkcaldy.

Anyone else seen this offer in asda? Seems to only be available in some stores.

Livingston doesn't have any, still at £31 there 👎
