Past its sell by date?

"nice mixer with Gin"

Yes I beat Alinshearah to it.

Shelf life is 5 years for oil

Is it 2x1L for £4.50?

Or a 2L bottle?

a 2 litre gallon

a 2 litre gallon

A gallon isn't 2 litres.

a 2 litre gallon

Wut?

Is that 2 2litre gallons or 1 gallon litre bottle?

Original Poster

its single 2 litre bottle with a handle (like a gallon of milk but not a gallon measure wise)

So you get 2 x 1L and 14 2L for £4.50?

Hot! I paid £20 for 5l of Asda's own 5w30 just last week :-(

I wouldn't worry too much, oil is oil unless you're racing. It's more important to have the right amount in your engine than what make it is.

Good deal for Castrol at this price though.

I heard Asda's engine oil is made from the old bottles of cooking oil that didn't sell, coloured with melted carrier bags?

No,no,no!
Good oil will at the right level will keep the engine running for much much longer.
Of course scheduled maintenance and services must be done and good quality fuel (not tesco) used.
Cheap engine oil will deteriorate as soon as working temperature is reached and the engine will start grinding.
This is actually a very good oil, fully synthetic and hard wearing, can easily clock 15K.

I use General Motors oil in my car which isn't a pure breed oil and I only use 10w 40 semi synthetic because that's all my car needs. It's done the last 60k on it, obviously it's been changed but that's all I've used and it's now on 129k and it runs fine.

All I was trying to say was that any oil is better than no oil and if I had the option of running on low decent oil or having the right amount of budget oil I'd rather have the right amount.

There's no way I'd ever leave a car 15k between oil changes though, oil technology has come a long way but IMO 15k is way too long.

New cars have a flexible service plan, where the car tells you when is time to service.
My friend did over 20k on his new polo bluemotion and the oil was still clear.
I personally service every year as I only clock about 5k.
However I agree with you that I would never let my car do 15K on the same oil as it was not designed to do it (Passat B5)
I used to buy semi synthetic oil as stated in the car manual, until an Audi racing mechanic explained the advantages of fully synthetic and convinced me.
I don't really remember these advantages, but it sounded right at the time and this guy is a pro employed by VW/Audi, so he must know his stuff.

great price

back to the point...

was this ever national?
