Honestly I did not rate Bali, you are better off saving a small fortune and flying to Turkey or Spain. If you are going that far go Vietnam or Thailand.

But Cathay Pacific were my favourite airline, great food, good leg room, unlimited free booze and decent movies. I was sold.

Out of holiday season, so no help here! :-(

And the "from" snippet is always a misleading statement ... as almost nothing ever fits the from bill!

Cathay Pacific is a premium airline that has a reputation of being one of the best airlines in the world (i.e. on par with Singapore, Emirates and so on).

I have no idea if the commenter talking about their decline is correct, however. I find it hard to imagine that they could have dipped so much that they're nowon par with budget airlines.

Yea Ubud was my favorite place on Balid itself.

Cathay are a premium airline with a very young fleet and up there with BA, and Singapore Airlines. They fly Boeing 777 and A350 to Hong Kong from the UK, with a flight time non stop of around 12 hours. The onward connection to Bali is another 4 hours 40 mins approx. Both flights are non stop. Cathay have been having some financial problems being a full service airline (what airline hasn't) but there is no chance they will not be here for decades to come. They are NOT in the position of Malaysian for example. Plus a Hong Kong stopover at no extra charge is a must.A nice hotel we use on the North Coast of Bali is the Adirama, not 5* but excellent staff and food. http://www.adiramabeachhotel.com/

Enjoyment is subjective, I lived between London & Hongkong for four years 2012-2016 and have made several trips there since properly moving (back) to the UK. Cathay does have a big money problem, they hedged oil prices awfully -- far worse than other long-haul carriers. A mainland Chinese takeover is more likely than folding but one or the other has been on the cards for sometime.

Take it from someone who has flown Hongkong - London many more times in the last 5 years than he can remember: Cathay have really nose-dived in that time. The service is dreadful; their slashing of prices has been accompanied by a slashing of quality. It's a tactical move to become seen as a budget option, rather than a more-premium option as they have been seen up until very recently. They aren't the only airline to have done this in order to keep passenger numbers up, but when stuck in economy a full 777 with Cathay service is not an experience to repeat (and since Cathay opted for budget flights their services are often completely full).

These comments do not relate to Business class, which was still acceptable the last time (Feb17) I used it.

Saw tickets for £475 MAN-HKG return yesterday in March. Such good value!
Ended up booking multi-city flights to Tokyo with stopover in HK too for just £588.

thanks....planning a trip there soon

Took the MAN-HKG flight earlier this year, then on to HKT for same price. Easily the best flight to the Far East in 30 years of travelling there and HKG airport is superb for transfers.

The deal to the Philippines is good, but it's not specifically a 'better deal'. The distance to the Philippines is about 7000 miles, and it's about 10000 miles to Sydney. It also depends on where you'd prefer to go to when determining if it's a 'better deal'. The bottom line is that Cathay Pacific have some excellent sale fares around at the moment. (I say this light heartedly - sorry if it comes across differently! 8) X))

No i understand your view... as a general rule it's about the same cost to fly to Oz in peak as it is to the PI so i thought it was a great price for both! Off peak it's always cheaper to the PI

I did not get this type of fare. I seem that your fare not good for Sydney flights.

From £829 now!

Link is dead.

forget the cancellation/amendment charges. I haven't flown with CX from London for over 5years. Reason being is their luggage allowance. 20kgs is the standard issue across the airlines nowadays but with CX you cant pay extra to buy another bag!

Most airlines charge around £40 for an extra 20kg bag to HK. CX do not offer this and if you go over, you pay overweight per kilo. if you lucky they'll charge you £15 per kg......

are their cancellation conditions and charges for real? in order to be able to cancel for a hefty £200 you need to book on Economy special which is nearly double the cost of the cheapest ticket.....

can't quite afford this year's holiday, without paying for 2011's now

Used Cathay occasionally to return to Hong Kong. Good airline, just a shame luggage allowance is only 20kg. Virgin and BA are 23kg.

No complaints about Cathay, used them many times to visit Hong Kong when they used to run daily out of Manchester. But these prices don't seem anything special really. So only warm from me.

I flew with Cathay to Hanoi in May & back from Bangkok in June. Great service & plane. I paid £640 which was the cheapest at the time.

Think i'll book my flight to Bangkok with Thai-Air as it usually works out cheaper if you have a quick look around. Good price for direct purchase from the airline, but patiance, and a little help from google, usually show cheaper.

Not voting either way, but thanks for the post.
