Good basic binoculars - 8x42 gives a nice bright image, ideal for astronomy. These are £89 at Argos and £82 under another Amazon listing so this may be a price error:

Seems to have been picked up from a German listing.
Celestron is a well-known brand for optical instruments and these are waterproof and multi-coated. Just ordered mine with 99p 7 day Amazon Prime trial.

Seems to have expired already, sorry!

That's a pity, these would have been ideal for OH's Christmas. I have no idea on these things other than he wants a pair that he can take hill walking and stuff. And nor does he so I'm relying on HDUK expert advice!

You could go for something like these Wingspan 8x32 compact binos at £59 from Amazon, well made, lifetime warranty and get good reviews, the Celestrons here are a bit too heavy for hill walking IMO.

I have these Celestron Outland X binos, although i have the 10X42 version, and very good they are too..... But, when i'm hiking, dog walking etc, i prefer to carry and use my Nikon Sportstar 10X25, as they're a lot smaller and lighter. Plus being out in the day, i dont need the light gathering qualities of the 42mm lens.
This may be something to take into consideration..... but whatever you decide to buy, dont buy cheap binos, they really are a waste of money.

Go for 8x25 bins for hill walking, but chose a good make like Nikon, Bushnell or Celestron. I bought Bushnell's H2O 8x25 for my Dad for his birthday and was very impressed.

Yes, they aren't bad, i'm sure your husband would be pleased with either.
But i wouldn't discount 8X magnification.... many people prefer them for the wider field of view and the less magnification the brighter they tend to be.
The Bushnell H20 8X25 recommended by somersetpaul in the post above look very good.... and they're a good price at Jessops atm.

Thanks Biker.Jeff. Similar price on Amazon, however they seem to be longer at 6.1 x 13.2 x 18.3 cm, and 340g, which makes me tempted to look again at the Wingspan 8 x 32 posted above at 11.43 x 11.43 x 4.44 cm and 431g, info is according to Amazon of course so may not be accurate!
