Is this worth the money? Do I need to buy anything else to improve it? I’m a novice and wouldn’t mind something to start with.

Yeah call the police when over-70s are out of the house.
Super tempted, been sitting on a Currys voucher for ages. Can anyone vouch for whether this is decent? Is it one of the ones I can get an adaptor for and hook up to my camera? Thanks
I have this telescope. The bad points are, the tripod is wobbly and the lenses are mediocre.
I replaced the tripod with a better one from a charity shop which cost £6 and bought a couple of better lenses from Astroboot, a 9mm and a 20mm which cost £20 and now it is excellent, great for wide angled views. You can just make out the rings of Saturn although it's less than the size of a pea at arm's length.
Great for beginners or for holidays.

Can you provide me with the link to the lenses you bought? I just ordered this and I want the best experience possible.
The tripod is rubbish (and the finder, but not as important in this scope category), but that's all the bad you can say about this little refractor. Even the eyepieces are not bad (Modified Achromatic design), definitely not like the horrid things included in the Jessops and National Geographic scopes. Even if you buy a better telescope afterwards, it can still be a decent second/third travel scope. Also, astrophotographers often use this as a guide scope (a secondary scope with a camera that tracks an object during long exposure photography).
Try to find a better tripod though, it is a bit frustrating.

Astroboot sell astronomy parts and bits of damaged scope kits. What they stock varies on a daily basis so best to look at their site. At the moment they have a 9mm plossl for £18.20 and a 20mm plossl for £8.20 both made by GSO a well respected brand. Website is Astroboot .co.uk.

Hi what would you recommend for a budget of less than £400? Many thanks. I'm not very experienced myself but it will be a gift.

For yourself or someone else? 2nd hand is always a great way to get a decent scope, and £400 will get a good scope and mount.

£325 will get you Sky-Watcher Explorer 150P EQ3-2 mount from first light optics, with some change for extra eyepieces.
I always want one , but scared that my kids might use it during DAY time .. or does these come with auto shutoff during day ? :-)

would you recommend this deal based on your slideshow? I see you mention the Travelscope 70.

Yes, this is a good deal (you only get the Travelscope 70 at this price normally), with the caveat I mentioned, the tripod is pretty poor so it is best replaced.
