Center Parcs Half Term Autumn 2016 for Wales schools £379

Who's up for planning ahead a little?

England and Wales schools have their Autumn half term on different weeks in 2016. 4 nights in Center Parcs during England's half term (24th October) is over £1000, 4 nights during Wales' half term (31st October) is around £379. Fab price for a school holiday break. Please check your county's holiday dates just to be sure all they're all the same.

The Welsh Government has proposed unified dates for half term for 2016 onwards. They have proposed 24-28 October 2016 as half-term for ALL OF WALES. This is the SAME as England! Please take note of this before you book!

Can you say which area you're in as I can't find the term dates for 2016 for Cardiff? All the websites only seem to show up until the Summer term 2016.

I'm in Carmarthenshire. I know both Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire are October 31st onwards, but unsure of other locations.

I'm in Swansea and just checked both my childrens school on myschoolholidays.com and unfortunately the holidays start same date as the English school... Gutted cause we all love Center parcs!!!

That's a shame as it's so expensive during holiday time.

Not for us in Denbighshire unfortunately, good deal for those of you that can get it though, we had a very cheap trip to Centreparcs last year when the holidays worked in our favour.

Really want to book this, looked at my local councils website for school holidays and yes our school is off, rang the council but apparently that's just a guide the school does not have to have the weeks stated by the council. My son will have started high school in October 2016 so have emailed the school as their hols only go upto summer 2016,but won't know anything if at all till the schools return next week, really want to book now though

centre parcs is ok. been to longleat. Usual prices are ridiculous. Once there you still have to pay for most things.

I agree it seems expensive once you're there, but food wise we'll be bringing our own for breakfast and lunch. Trip advisor reviews are good for all sites, and most people return. I haven't been since I was very young, so can't personally comment yet! I do feel it will be a good break though.

I do believe the council's can change their dates, but I'm aware of many council workers, working for the education department local to me, who have booked this so I'm feeling confident it will be ok. My son will be under 5 at the time, though, so under legal school age.

I've booked it,yayyy

Good find! Unfortunately we are Denbighshire too :-(

Glad I booked now, just looked this morning and it's gone up £100

Free prescriptions and now cheap center parcs

yes but we get slower emergency ambulance response times than England alongside our cheaper centre park offers and free prescriptions. So most of us won't be alive to go.....

C Parcs pricing is based on available villas. The more that are available the lower the price and this then scales up in price as availability reduces like Easyjet. Its not them cottoning on but just the way they always price.

We are in Caerphilly and next years school holiday dates only go up to July

Denbighshire dates are a week later than England so can get cheaper deals. Note dates are provisional however this has worked for us previously.

Newport half term is same as English so it's not all of Wales. Not sure how Center Parcs justify a 50% hike in prices for half term; though their clientele seems to have been unaffected by the recession. Something really does need to be done about school holidays to prevent parents from being overcharged during peak times of demand. I propose parents should be allowed one week per term of allowable days out of school during term time.

Plus don't forget our Betsi Cadwalader health board waiting times...

Unified dates! Haha
This is so they can also start to raise money through fines for parents who have no alternative but to take a holiday during the term time. Wales currently don't fine, but are also planning to introduce it from next year as far I understand.
The staggered dates allowed some parents the chance to save a bit of money (which is in short supply for working families) Shame they are planning this,

I'm not taking sides here by the way - I live in Wales and haven't been to Center Parcs this year and not booked for next year either because the holidays in Wales now seem to fall in line with England so no cheap deals :-(

Don't blame the education system because CenterParcs is an expensive holiday

The taxpayer cost of absent pupils taking unauthorised holidays during term-time far exceeds the proposed fines imposed. So they're not 'raising money' in any shape or form - education fines arent speed cameras fines.

The warning system and penalties are being imposed because state-funded education simply had enough of large chunks of children missing from classes, affecting their progress, undermining school results and lowering the morale of teachers, who are left helping little Johnny catch-up on the curriculum after two weeks in the Algarve, whilst the other children who were in attendance lose out on that teachers time.

All holidays are luxury, non-essential purchases. Some can afford regular ones. Some can afford the occassional one. Some can afford lots of extravagant ones. Others take cheap ones. That's life - its the same with other purchases - cars, clothes, food. I have two children in state education and have the utmost respect for the teachers and governors involved, as I see genuine value at work for my taxes. Its not there to be abused, its there for my childrens futures.

Carmarthenshire have changed there dates to align with England.
