Excellent. No idea what the course is like, or whether you wanna pay for a certificate to prove it after but this can make a real difference to someone's day.

This course could be the difference between a persons needs being ignored, them handed a pen with the crude 'sign' "write it down" or actually feeling included in society.

Please even if it's just basics, learn a little. This should be on the national curriculum.

I went to a wedding years ago, the parents of the bride were deaf, the best man started his speech with....”I walked into the Kitchen 2 years ago and saw Anne (Brides mother) sitting naked on a pile of books......it was at this point I realised she could lip read”.
A bit crude but it went down well and it’s stayed in my head for over 20 years.

Will I finally be understood?
How many hrs do you need to invest in the course?
Be careful because you will probably get spammed daily by "limited time" deals on other courses.

Alllllll the elites use it after all, right?. :-(

Well I just hope that that wee 'experiment' didn't leave you blind or anything? hehehehehehe.
There is a 30% off code today making this a little cheaper. I received an email from Groupon with a link to offers included. This is one of the offers.

I have a vague recollection from a TV programme stating sign language in other countries sometimes uses different types of hand gestures to get across the same thing. Are the gestures all fairly similar or could people from different countries say something different to each other; to what they were actually trying to get across to the other person? In the same way words in different languages can have very different meanings.

I suppose the short question is: how universally used is the sign language taught on this course?
Very nice
Strange as it sounds (or maybe it isn't) that sign language isn't universal.

Only valid in Britain and part of the withdrawal agreement is that after Brexit, no other country will be worthy of it. #MakeBSLgreatAgain
This is so weird! I was thinking about learning sign language on the train this morning, this must be a sign (no pun intended)
It's a great deal and a fab way to learn some British sign language, but please be aware this does NOT get you a Level One or Level Two Certificate in British Sign Language - the certificate you get acknowledges you have completed Alpha Academy's course in this subject. This is NOT an alternative to the courses offered at colleges as these provide an actual recognised BSL certificate.
I find watching the Inbetweeners at 3am is a helpful lesson in sign language.

I agree strongly too.....been saying they shud teach basic sign language in schools for ages .....ive learnt a little from my 5 year old neice whos deaf

On that basis I may learn Romanian too.

Wow, is that meant to be funny? It seems like it's from a place of ignorance.

For the avoidance of doubt.
People do not choose to be deaf.
Wheelchair users do not choose to simply not walk.
Romanian refugees make seek assylum in a country they don't speak the language of.
As a partially deaf person myself I think it’s a great idea! I’m lucky I can hear on one side, but I can imagine it being the most frustrating thing ever living in total silence! Anything that we can do to make a person with a impairment feel that little bit better is a plus in my book.
As a father to a partially deaf son who is 3rd language English after Makaton and BSL even a simple hello, please ,thanks and you ok makes the world of difference to a young child, the more the merrier.

I'm the same was told I'd be totally deaf by 30 I'm almost 40 I still have some hearing but I really struggle now xx
I appear to be stuck in a catch 22 situation, not knowing how to sign up.

Googling, it seems the proper accredited courses are by iBSL and Signature. Level 1 of iBSL has 66 guided learning hours, Level 2 has 100. The course in this offer has *9*.

As in discounted availabilities, etc, and not the access assessability thing, or whatever?.

I'm assuming that that's what the original commenter meant, etc. :-)

Try watching Something Special (with Justin), on CBBC's, or one of those mid-Week kiddie channel's.

Weekend re-runs of these are a MUST!!.

That's assuming you're as keen to learn BSL in the manner to which you're indirectly making out that is?, lol.

I've watched a good handful of this in the past, and trust me, it's a hum dinger winner!!. :-D

Even I've learnt some coooool BSL word's off of it myself, over the course of x-time (and trust me, I'm RUBBISH!, hehehehehehe).

You blatantly can't go wrong. :-)
