The compact, lightweight design makes this Challenge cordless, 3-in-1 grass trimmer easy to use and manoeuvre around your garden. With a 23cm cutting width it's designed for adding a finishing touch to fine grass once it's been mowed. Being 3-in-1 it can edge, trim and reach under objects such as trampolines or garden furniture. With a telescopic shaft you can adjust the height to suit your needs. The flower guard allows you to cut right up to your flowerbeds without cutting the flowers inside.
Being cordless you can cut anywhere. Comes complete with an 18V lithium battery and a charger. The battery is detachable so you can charge it inside your home for your convenience.

Looks OK but 5hr charge time and 2.7kg weight compared to the McGregor one which is £10 more; 3hr charge and 2.1kg. Also seems more ergonomic with the second handle and auto-feed.

Be interesting to hear what others think? Thanks OP for heads-up as needed a cordless strimmer for the edges

We have this strimmer and it does the job pretty well. I think the biggest issue is/was the ability to buy a replacement spindle as the size it uses isn't common. I don't remember Argos selling replacement spindles for this strimmer. Just something to look into before you take the plunge.

This is the same model number and design as one I bought at Homebase last week (£29 but branded as “Sovereign”). Assume it’s the same — and I’m delighted with mine, really good value at this kind of price. Works much better than I’d expected.

I did not know that 'Argos spares' was a thing! Thanks very much for the heads up on that.

That's interesting. Makes sense, since they're owned by the same group. I'm interested as I got some sovereign tools dirt cheap and was also surprised and impressed with the quality/. Presumably the batteries are the same and interchangeable then?

Wouldn’t be at all surprised.

It does look very similar. I reckon so too. especially with the model number being the same.

I'm going for it and will confirm my findings once I've tried.

Whether they’re compatible between tools of different *types* is probably asking too much eh.

Hopefully not. Usually the different tools from each brand use the same battery system. It's cheaper for them to mass produce then and also means you're more likely to buy more tools from them to share the batteries.

I'll let you know, as I'm getting the Challenge pole trimmer and hoping my soverign non-pole trimmer batteries fit.

Seems they are compatible for different tool from the same brand at least:-

Can these be easily modified to attach cable ties to use as blades, rather than strimmer line that snaps all the time?
