I was like you a few months ago, thinking £30-50 was my max budget for a bike.....I had a cheap dual suspension bike in the garage which weighed a tonne. I had also bought my girlfriend a decent 'cheap' bike. I rode it to work for a few days and it was horrific...... so much hard work and untrustworthy (i.e: wouldn't trust my life to it like I do with my current bikes) I now have a £650 Trek 6500 and a Kona Lavadome and few other bikes in my garage so I guess I am a converted 'Bike Snob' now..... spending hundreds a month of parts and maintenance etc

I am not going to be critical because as I say a few months ago this would have been just the thing for me but I realised how heavy and nasty and how much damn hard work cheap bikes are to ride.....

Review of this bike:

Money Poorly Spent 02 October 2008
By Paul from Buckinghamshire
Overall Rating 1 Star Poor

"This bike has had the rear wheel spindle assembly rebuilt due to poor quality control procedures and materials. There is an ongoing problem with the handlebars not securing properly. As a mechanical engineer I really believe that the product does not meet the appropriate standard. I will not buy a cheap bike again - it just isn't worth it! Less than 6 months old, by the way!! I admit I haven't contacted Argos as it's more work for me!"

i see what your saying. and i had an expencive bike a while back that was stolen, so i dont bother now. ill be damned if im going to spend a fiver parking my car in town daily or pay 6 quid on bus fares.

Hot from me

I think it would be better if they lost the pointless and energy wasting gimmick front suspension and made it cheaper.

nothing wrong with spending this sort of money on this sort of bike ,
i guess a bargain really , but it gets you from a to b ,
but after a while the quality shows through .

why do people vote cold if they aint even interested in buying the item? ffs theres some really sad people on here

Great bike for armchair cyclists.

If this bike broke you wouldn't be able to fix it. Go to a bike shop and buy something for a hundred quid! Hate cheap bikes me!

could you elaborate a bit.
is this some kind of special bike with parts that cant be replaced or fixed?
would a 100 pound bike from a bike shop never need fixing or parts replacing?
im not being disrespectful but your talking *****

It would be even odder if people voted cold when they were interested in buying

suggest a cold vote means they don't see it as good VFM

its a cheap bike - seems you get what you pay for.

if you want a quality bike this isn't it
if you want a cheap bike this is it - but don't expect it to be quality - like your first post said

probably fine for into town but spend a bit more if you're off on the tour de france

I totally agree with al the negative comments about this bike.... and the OP should maybe look at the quality of their deals before calling people who vote cold sad.
Cold from me for this deal.

how do you know its a poor quality bike? have you got one? if not then how can you possibly pass comments on the quality.
wether you buy a mass produced 90 quid bike or a 200 quid one they all have roughly the same componants.
not everybody can afford an expencive bike, and saving 1/3 on the normal selling price is a good deal.

Lol, even my Trek 650 and Kona Lavadome need repairing almost every week ....I am always spending £10 here, £30 there ......it's the nature of the beast - Yes they are great bikes but I really ride them to the limit every day of the week up steep hills, 10 miles a day - they take so much abuse and punishment and I trust them with my life.

But I see what you are saying about the cheaper bikes because I bought a cheap Dua; suspension bike off Ebay for £35 and got it home on the train from Manchester to Sheffield and the Bottom bracket was knackered - I spent £65 in the end fixing that only to relaise the bike was heavy and impossible to ride....I sold it at Xmas for £30 after having it in the garage for two years.

If this bike breaks - consider breaking it down for parts and getting back any value from it possible.

Cheap bikes are dangerous. I would seriously recommend spending £150 or so on a entry level bike by a proper manufacturer. Giant, specialized, GT etc.

£150 isn't expensive for a bike and it is only poor quality mass manufacure that make £50 bikes possible.
If you are hard up get a friend who knows a bit about bikes to get a second hand one for you.

Nice to get a heads up if the bike isn't so hot.
Could you recommend an alternative bike though for a bit more?
