for that price it is perfect for home diy:)

I have one of these but may get an extra one to run some wire \ buffing wheels. At this price its a bargain and saves messing around changing wheels around.

Are these OK for sharpening kitchen knives etc?

Yes, they are perfect. You can also sharpen garden shears, scissors, mower blades, etc.

Superbargain!

Good price but resisted the urge to buy!

Oos everywhere

Brilliant find thanks OP heat added

I bought this two years ago when it was on offer at just £16.49 at Homebase, and when using it have always found it handy to have. £10.99 is a great find.

Not OOS everywhere - In stock showing at stores near me - Cirencester and Wantage

What would one use this for?

You should never grind a knife. The localised heat causes annealing to the steel making it softer.

You must hone a blade and it will retain its hardness and sharpness for much longer.

Excellent for re-sharpening drill bits, lawnmower blades (not knives) that type of thing.

If you don't know what it does, you probably don't need it right now.

The clue is in the title however...

You'd be better getting a cheap diamond stone and honing the blade. As OrribleHarry stated, the steel would overheat and ruin your knives.

might get the wife one

Shaving no cream needed

Thanks OP, great spot. Just what I needed, and a bargain.

It's unlikely to have enough power to be very useful with a buffing wheel to be honest. A 1/3 to 1/2hp motor is about right for a 6inch wheel.

Thanks OP. Got one reserved at my local store.

reserved, handy for sharping axes

Reserved ..... what a bargain ..... loads of stock around me ...... dip yer bread!

Fab deal!

For those of you who have given heat without purchasing the product I suggest you go an waste £10.99 and buy one. I have one of these in my garage that my wife bought me quite a few years ago. If you apply any pressure at all when grinding drills or lawnmower blade you can easily slow the wheel down and stop it. You can apply light pressure only and I use mine for sharpening pencils because that is all it is really good for. Like post no. 21 says you need a decent motor for a grinder to grind properly.

In that case it will be unfit for purpose and can be returned ..... why didn't you return yours?
