I popped into ASDA to pick up 6 bottles of Piper Champagne (on offer for £15.00 a bottle) which is decent budget champagne, when I spotted some "Chapel Down Vintage Reserve Brut English Sparkling Wine" on the shelf for £12.00 a bottle.
It sells for £20 or more everywhere else and it is a very decent drop so for me £12.00 is a steal, and I am buying British! (crowd shouts "Hurrah!")

If you find it in your local ASDA I urge you to give it a go, you won´t regret it.

The following is taken from slurp.co.uk:

Chapel Down is the leading English Wine brand - their wines are served in the House of Commons and various Government departments as well as overseas embassies and even the Royal Wedding. The background terroir in the south east of England on the Downs is identical to that of Champagne; a chalky or limestone outcrop with alluvial clay deposits just below the surface - so Chapel Down use the traditional method when making their sparkling wines (the same way Champagne is made). The Brut Vintage Reserve is a very approachable style of fizz with a lively refreshing mousse, good depth, crisp fruit and a palate with attractive yeast overtones. Ripe red apples and peach dominate the nose with apples and light tropical fruit on the palate. It is great as an aperitif, but can also be served with a fruit platter. Best drunk within three years of purchase.

Cheers to you all.

Decent deal, but just because its british. Champagne has a protected designation of origin trademark - this is 100% NOT champagne, but ironically may be better than poor champagne.

Personally, we need to let the french have a few things to be good at - cheese, wine, hairy women and surrender, spring to mind. A similar price Crémant de Bourgogne will knock spots off of blighty's finest offering.

Can you recommend a Crémant de Bourgogne for £12.00ish and I will have a go.

Check out chris piper wines, they are very knowledgable and friendly and stock a lot of off the beaten track wines. Happy
hunting.

Recommend a bottle of Crémant de Bourgogne for £12.00 and I will pick one up, thanks.

Also it´s a shame this hasn´t got hotter, good bottle of bubbles this Chapel Down. A lot of people will be putting usual Tesco / Sainsburys / Asda etc £10 "Special Offer" Champagne in their trolleys, which most likely taste worse than a bottle of Frexinet for £5.00 from Morrisons.
