** WILD GOOSE CHASE ALERT **

Just been to Asda Living at Arnison Centre Durham and found the last of these BBQs on sale for £44.75 so snapped it up. Original reduced price on the box was £170, unsure what it was before then.

Might only be 3 or something in the country but I havent seen a better price for a 3 burner never mind one with the extra features this appears to have, so figured it was worth posting so it might help at least one person get a bargain. This scanned at checkout rather than any manual entry so if there are any more of these around the price should be national.

Hope this helps someone.

Not a lot of information about this online as it appears to be primarily American (no doubt sourced via Wal-Mart) but the link to the BBQ on the Char-Broil website is here:

I bought one if these from Asda a month or so ago. It just can't get it hot enough, it's only getting to 250c-300c tops! Checked for leaks, changed the gas bottle and CharBroil replaced the regulator first then the hose but it's not made the slightest difference.
Not impressed.

Thats surprising as most of the reviews are, if anything, the opposite - i.e. difficult to get the heat low! Must be a duffer?

Mine is always too hot, maybe something wrong with the replacement parts as well?

Also bought one last year from Asda and got a refund eventually as does not cook food expect from one corner - was much worse than my 2 burner laguna from b and q. Customer service poor also. keep blaming the gas. Personally I would avoid.

When is a BBQ not a BBQ? When it's on one of these, I mean you may as well cook in the oven for that 'authentic' taste

I don't know much about these things but I think I read somewhere that butane doesn't get as hot as propane, are you using butane by any chance?

I sell propane and propane accessories

I'm using Propane. I think the main difference between the gasses is Propane works better in cold weather.

This is excellent. Wild goose chase and something to cook the goose on if you catch it...

You sir have absolutely no idea what you're on about. The barbecue taste comes from the smoke from the fat burning, which happens on a gas barbecue as much as on a coal one. But you've obviously never tried a gas one and are basing your views on something you read on the Internet. You probably didn't do very well at school did you?

Checked my local ones this morning, none there, brill if you can find it though

checked my local asda - they have them in stock but still £171 ( I got customer services to scan and check the price) so doesn't look like its national.

Actually the consequence of the fat burning and dripping onto the charcoal is smoke, Any oils and condensed flavours falling into the hot ash and embers, would instantly be spat back up in fine droplets in the smoke. This is part of the process that gives the food its more intense flavour which we all identify as BBQ.

This doesn't happen on a gas BBQ which is why you need to add artificial flavourings.

I did really well at school now that you ask, obviously a lot better than you did. Any more questions I can put you right on ?

So which part of your well googled answer fits in with your description of a gas barbecue being the same taste as something out of an oven? Do you not know, what with all this intelligence you have, that gas barbecues have hot plates designed precisely to create the same "fine droplets in the smoke" when the "oils and condensed flavours" fall on them?

But as I said, you've obviously never tried a gas barbecue.

I have this BBQ albeit with the stainless lid. Paid £170 which I thought was gr8 value and has worked without fault or corrosion since.
Cooks food very fast and it's always juicy but I do keep the lid closed between turning.

If your definition of BBQ is grilling sausages and burgers then gas in fine. If your definition of BBQ is 18 hour low and slow brisket or pork butt smokes then gas is not ok.

Considering 99 percent of people in the UK use the first definition then this is a fine deal if you can find one.
