Can't go wrong with Chateauneuf-du-pape wines. Bought it but not tried it yet. Saving it for Christmas. Seems like a good price.

I work in a restaurant and we sell this for £20 a bottle. Good find

Thanks for the heads up, nice wine

Great price for this but too full bodied for me...would be drunk after 2 glasses

Sainsburys also have it for a tenner

Reminds me of Only Fools and Horses

Are we talking this exact same wine producer, same label etc or just chateauneuf du pape in general ?

Same here. But it didn't stop me!

Bought three bottles today for presents. Nice thing about giving this is Chateau Neuf Du Pape has a certain prestige. Thanks Aldi!

£20 with a restaurant markup is a £7 bottle of wine!

Always reminds me of the daft woman on come dine with me who took her own wine ( Chateau Neuf Du Pape ) to every dinner because she didn't want to drink crap wine oO

Nice I've never seen it below a Tenner

had fun tasting this on my holiday this year . All us brits bulked at spending around twenty five quid on a bottle .will go on a wine hunt tonight

Nice Red

Great wine possibly, but, there are so many variables-producer, vineyard, area, vintage etc etc. Good price but then its £9.00. Try getting a good cotes du rhone from a named village- could be better value. All the same I give aldi the benefit of the doubt, if you are going to buy C.D.P in this price range its probably as good as the other sub £10 cdp.

Still marked up as £9.99 in Bridgwater

Madcow

Beware, some cndp is pap and only has the name because of where it comes from. There is plenty of excellent wines at this price level so don't waste your money on the label.

took a punt .its 2012 and 14 % so not one to quaff

Bought this from adsa the other day, it was around the £10 mark. Decent midweek drinking wine but not one to impress your mates with.

eh but they aren't the same!

I am no wine expert, I just drink the stuff but there are so many daft people on here, Chateauneuf-du-pape is just the region where the wine is from.

So you get a bad Chateauneuf-du-pape or a good one just like any other wine. The Chateauneuf-du-pape sold in Aldi may not taste the same as the Chateauneuf-du-pape from Asda.

Tempting but not tempting enough for me to move away from Aldi's Kooliburra Shiraz at £4 a popX)

Totally agree.... I've tried a cheap £10 cndp and it wasn't nice loaded with heavy tanins Anybody tried this yet? Hopefully a nice one.

2012 CNDP 90% vintage year and better than 2010 but should not really be drunk yet as it will get much better with age, you would be better off finding a campa velo for £8 in sainsburys if you want a drink now wine.
If you are going to store it for 2 or 3 years Look for a La crau sector CNDP 2012
2011 bottles were awful.... DO NOT BUY even at £5 a bottle
2010 was a 88% vintage year

the decent stuff is £11.99 at Sainsbury's but 25% off when you buy 6 bottles. I got 18 bottles on Monday

I think you are missing the point, this exact bottle is sold in many supermarkets.

I agree with you about the region having many wines of differing quality but for some reason the supermarkets have chosen this one as the main one they will sell.

A good wine is the wine you enjoy. Too much wine snobbery around, especially re old world wines. CNDP is a good label to put in front of your impressionable guests at Christmas but there's no guarantee they'll actually enjoy it.

Having said that, Aldi offer consistently good value without having to rely on short term special offers and I'd have confidence that this one would be decent (if you like that sort of thing).

Probably still a max of £10 RRP for shops though, always inflated prices in restaurants. I buy a Gewurztraminer over here for £11.99 and in Mauritius, when on holiday recently, I was paying £50 a bottle for the same wine.

This is probably just an entry level CNDP but still worth it at £8.99 definitely.
