Firstly these are rubbish connection times and the airline is rubbish, so please don't vote cold for the connection times/airline as you can pay about £50 more for better connection times and a better airline.

This is a post is mainly for people who don't mind a long connection for a cheaper price, such as backpackers / retired people who just want warmer weather etc...

No onto the deal:

On Sky scanner from LGW to BKK you can see many flights around £288 return in the month of February - just play around with the dates, if your lazy, below are a couple of examples...

2 Weeks in BKK

3 weeks in bkk

£288 to Thailand i personally think is mega cheap

I'd be knackered by the time I got to gatwick
15 hour stop in China, not sure if I'm correct or not but you may need a visa or some documents for that. I've known of a few people who have had issues with connections in China
What's the safety record for these Chinese airlines? To me it would be a bit like playing russian roulette!
There's nothing wrong with China Eastern, I've flown on internal Chinese flights with them (deffo worse than their international offerings) and they were equal to lower cost airlines from other countries.

Also flown with Shenzen airlines LHR - SZX and it was one of my best international experiences. Near brand new A330. Much better than my last return trip with BA to the US on their ancient 747 fleet.

free transit visa now if you select a long stop over... some airlines even give you a free hotel (china southern for an example)

Thanks for clearing that up for everyone!
free first class lounge if your stop over is not short but not that long, free transit hotel if the stop over is long.
these would be pretty decent to pop out and check out Shanghai for 15 ish hours and shenzhen for a day
Heat; just for the honesty.
Just wondering, what's there to see and do in Thailand?

youtube mark wiens, we are going in Dec.
Booked Air China with 20 hours transit in Chengdu and 19 hours in Shanghai on our way back.
The service in Chengdu is excellent, free locker, free hotel, free cinema ticket, free £5 voucher for food, free first class lounge.
Service in Shanghai is less good, just first class lounge.

I wouldn't worry about it, you'll have much better internet here, so why leave?
It's like France but hotter and less strikes...

call their service center and they will sort this out for you. It is on their website
Amazing price.
Not as cheap, but note that Norwegian fly direct from Copenhagen to Krabi for under £200 in December. Possibly a more convenient route if wanting sun, sea and sand. Plus a day in wonderful Copenhagen.
That's cheap! Blimey.
