Asus laptop with a core i5 processor, 4gb RAM and 1TB hard drive. Definitely good value money for a low end laptop.

I wouldn't call it low end. 4th gen i5 is pretty quick.

THE HP ONE IS MUCH BETTER.

This is a excellent laptop at this price - not low end by any means! Hot!

I have the i3 version of this laptop, keyboard is sometimes unresponsive and trackpad is terrible.

Heat added, nice priceX)

and I have a 4th Gen i5 version of this with full HD screen....and it is the best laptop I have ever had!

I understand that it's a matter of personal choice, liking and experience. However, I personally feel that Asus laptops are far better than very clumsy looking HP laptops. Lenova is good as well.

Only 4 hours battery life too. Poor by todays standards

If you want a 17.3" screen, then yes the HP one is much better (for the primary reason that it has one, and this doesn't).
For people who use capital letters though, anything made by VTech would probably do to be honest.

Can the RAM be upgraded on this machine?

asus charging port is very poorly designed, starts wiggling about after a few months

HP have sadly have had a bad year with reliability issues, I'd stay well clear.

how can you critique manufacturers, you can't even spell Lenovo correctly. For £50 more the HP machine is definately worth it, Asus machines are cheaply built on a cheap plastic chassis compared to HP's brushed aluminium chassis. The HP laptop also has an Intel Iris graphics card (one of the top range), 8gb RAM and 1.5TB hard drive storage so completely obliterates this shabby asus machine for specs and build quality. I should know, I work for this company.

BARGAIN_HUNT3R, Thanks for pointing out the typo I made while writing 'LENOVO'. My apologies! However, I would suggest that you learn to read slightly more carefully. I clearly said in my comment that 'Its a matter of personal choice, liking and experience'. Thereby, its entirely my prerogative to like or criticize any manufacturer!

I brought this laptop a few weeks before christmas at £329, and with o2 priority code, £299. Amazing laptop, space bar is a little funny, but otherwise, is great

How can YOU critique anyone when you cannot be consistent with your capitals lol

Just about everything is ultrabook low power drain now, CPU power is almost irrelevant these days for the general user. i3, i5 and i7 are just marketing terms, the general user has absolutely no clue what they mean in real world terms, just the higher the number the better they must be.

There's multiple generations of each CPU and such diversity in each generation that those monikers i3 etc are meaningless.

Oh I hope not, I have just bought a HP

Battery type 2-cell Lithium-ion

i would stay away

Went to get one of these when offer last week

Thought id have a play on the display model

Keyboard wouldn't work properly, kept freezing and the mouse was non existent on the screen

The reason : it's been on display for 4 hours. Sorry but if it can't handle 4 hours of randomers how will it handle 4 years of use by joe bloggs

I bought this at £329 plus O2 code plus work discount so only paid £280. Cracking laptop for the price, speedy and has plenty of space on 1TB drive. Only drawback is the integrated battery (non removable/swapable). It has a brushed aluminium top chassis and lid which makes it look more expensive than it is.

Funny how it's those who don't actually own this laptop who knock it but those of us who do absolutely love it ! oO

The RAM & Hard Disk Drive is about the only thing you can upgrade on laptops....well without soldering!

Not a hot deal.

Care to elaborate why ? Do you actually own one ?

Surely it doesn't matter if they own one to decide if they think it is a hot deal or not? If that was the case people shouldn't vote on the majority of deals here.

can someone please post a link to the 17" HP please. I can't find it using the search function.

I'm debating whether to get this or the hp that currys are selling for £350. I intend to use it for web browsing, downloading music and also the odd game of FM. Would this machine be suffice?

I've also seen an acer with a 4th gen i3, 1tb and 12gb of ram for £350 in currys.

What machine would people recommend.
