Wouldn't say it failed
I live near Blackpool
Yes it's a hole full of drugs, homelessness, crime, poverty but but it used to be great
Better wording would be, A Seaside Town what used to be go to place for British Holidays but took a massive fall from glory
It's not the word place in the country, I find Blackpool best if you don't stay late and you stay in the town centre and just ignore the beggars

The most exciting thing my Hometown has it.. well.. nothing, at least Blackpool has a cinema, known restaurants, clothing shops, etc
Only time I go out of town is to the cinema or get some new clothes since the one clothing shop and Asda George mostly stock women's clothing and it's a struggle to get pants in my size
Anyway if you're not bored from my long story I go on a bit, to put a long story short, it's hole with life

This. I go to plenty of places in the country and they all have good and bad bits. Blackpool isn't the only place in the country that has it's share of problems.

Yes GT Yarmouth is catching up fast. Used to have some lovely b& b's, now most have been turned into doss houses for the eastern block contingent.
I’ve stayed in Blackpool Village.
Its next door to a great Zoo & opposite an amazing park with boat hire etc
You’d never guess you were in ‘Blackpool’ as we know it tbh.

Swimming under the stars in the dark in their outdoor pool is amazing and my kids love having a go on the driving range there.
I've stayed at the Blackpool Village Hotel about four times over the last six months on business, it's a great hotel, the food is fantastic!

Amazing zoo. Didn't even know Blackpool had a zoo til we went there back on 2011. Recommend the zoo. Sure its no Chester zoo but it's cheaper so imo well worth the entrance fee
Bournemouth hotel is few miles away from the centre/beach. Aircon didn't work on entire floor when I stayed in summer couple of years ago
Be careful which Village hotels you go to. They've got a mix of purpose built hotels (called Black Box - quite nice!) and then their Legacy hotels which are getting quite dated now and can be pretty hit or miss depending on which room you get.

The Birmingham Walsall one is the latter type, their Birmingham Solihull hotel is the former. Google them and you'll see what I mean.

That's interesting - do you know if there's a list anywhere of which ones are black box and which are legacy?

Apart from the fact that the cocktails were appalling. Asked for pina colada, got given a pineapple juice with a single shot of Malibu. No white rum at all. When questioned that's what you get. Complete con.

Not that I'm aware of. According to Wikipedia, they have 30 hotels and only 10 are Black Box (not sure how to date this is). From personal experience, the following are Black Box hotels.

Birmingham Solihull
Bristol Filton
Glasgow
Leeds South
London Watford
Manchester Aston

A quick Google will show you which is which though. It's immediately obvious which is which when you see what they look like.

The problem is the people
Las time I had to drive to Blackpool I was ddroping of an Italian couple at an event, the looks on their faces as we drive past people sitting on sofas in the street drinking Specialbrew at 9:30 in the morning.

Yes! Bring back Jezza, he was the thread that bound our great nation together. It was seriously depressing tho, such a mundane scene on a suburban street, witnessed many years ago, but it is etched into my mind... I think it was my subconscious, warning me not to become a loser, at lease no more of one than I am right now. 😁
