Cheap tooth whitener 77p for 200ml instore at the Co-op Pharmacy

Found 29th Aug 2015
Having read the ingredients on some of the expensive teeth whiteners going for four quid a bottle and up, I went into the Co-op chemist on the High Street and bought a bottle of 9% Hydrogen Peroxide for 77 pence. Same price for the less concentrated kind, so read the labels. Use as mouthwash, brush it in, whatever. Don't swallow.

Yes, it is probably the usual price in that shop, but the same stuff online costs more, almost £3 on Amazon (which is where I got the pic).

Edit- some people are getting very exited about the strength of this. You don't use it straight. You dilute it. Information on the back of the label.

be careful with this as its high strength... my gums went black

may as well by a bottle of Milton and gargle on that!

This is great stuff, thank you

Stock up whilst you can as it goes on the government hit list in October - it can be used to make things that some people put in shoes before boarding flights.

Feet?

9% feet

As recommended by the Pogues

Its around this price in superdrug/boots/loyds chemist too.

Beware! It can liquefy mercury fillings.

This is dangerous as a teeth whitener and should never have been sold to you for that purpose. Very irresponsible.

Perfectly safe as a mouthwash (read the label). I'm sure they have taken into account the presence of teeth.

Just pop a couple of Sterident in your mouth before bed, works for my nan's dentures in a glass

to match your teeth

cheeky sod lol

Mouthwash and Gargle? For External Use Only

I'll put some in my United Utilities tap water. Might do a better job of killing cryptosporidium than those clowns so far

When you have finished with the peroxide, have a few swigs of antifreeze just to take the edge off....

People are prepared to put hydrogen peroxide in their mouth in the search of whiter teeth.... Jesus Christ what is the world coming to!

Cut down on tea, coffee & strongly coloured foods, quit smoking and brush & floss twice daily.

Bicarbonate of Soda is great for cleaning your teeth.Although Hydrogen Peroxide can be used to lighten your hair at the same time.

You do realise you told Brits to cut down on bad habits so they could have better health and looks? We are BRITS. We blame our shortcomings on two things : how difficult life is and of course immigrants. Or both. Were BRITS man, don't try that common sense BS with us. This and bleach ftw.

so its stronger than "Pearl Drops Beauty Sleep 20Ml" as I find that works well - tesco.com/gro…072

You could just move to a more non-contaminated place like Bolton, Leigh or Wigan

Bear in mind you have to dilute it 5 : 1 with water and it's NOT recommended for under 12's.

Since it also contains phosphoric acid.... I can guarantee I won't be using this stuff!

OMG...are you crazy?! The whitening toothpastes that contain hydrogen peroxide (available freely in the USA or prescribed by a Dentist in the UK) ONLY contain 1% - so with 9% you could seriously be doing more damage than good.

Hence so much heat for the Lidl giant cucumber deal.

Thanks for posting

Tooth powder is safer and has been used a lot longer. If you're not adverse to putting a little on your fingertip and rubbing it directly against the teeth as a basic but very effective polish

Read the label. You are supposed to dilute it. The point of buying the 9% solution is that it is the same price as the 3% solution, so you get more for your money (and dilute it more).

You used to be able to get up to 22% dental bleach but this has been outlawed in Europe but still available in America, this liquid wont work for tooth whitening because it takes around two hours for a dose to work and as a liquid it wont sit in bleaching trays too well either.

I use this mixed with tint on my hair!!!!

Can also be used for lapping in valve seats...

Looks before health, at any cost! Get whiter teeth, who cares if your teeth start falling out in 5 years because of gum disease. Because who has time to bother with flossing, and brushing properly, right? As long as you have white teeth, who cares! Lovely culture.

DO NOT USE THIS TO EHITEM YOUR TEETH! YOU CAN PERMANENTLY DAMAGE YOUR GUMS AND DESTROY THE NERVES IN YOUR TEETH

One simple phrase that people need to learn:

the dose makes the poison.

As the op has mentioned, and like with anything, follow the instructions. I don't think the co-op and other companies that make similar products want to get sued by everyone so easily.

Are they stopping you from buying it entirely after October? Or will you still be able to buy it, with restrictions, do you know?

I use it as a mouthwash, perfectly safe in general, and a stated use on the bottle is even 'mouthwash' so unclear on why there is any controversy here. As long as it is diluted and used as directed, there should be no problems, but, like anything, not every product is right for every individual. Much better than having a bleaching agent on your teeth for hours on end, for me, anyway, this whitens your teeth very gradually, and acts as oxegenating/antiseptic agent.
