Cheap Verbatim DVD +/- RW Discs £7.99 @ Poundstretcher

50
Found 5th Aug 2008Made hot 5th Aug 2008
I popped into my local poundstretcher yesterday and was lucky enough to pick up
some packs of these blank discs - which I know are the only reliable ones to use on
my DVD recorder.
£7.99 for a pack of 50 - 16p each. + & - RW available

Went into the nearby PC World and I swear they wanted almost £20 for the same pack.
However pc world have them for £12.99 on their website. Anyway £5 cheaper at
Poundstretcher which is part of Instore.

Have no idea if this a local deal - but worth checking out.

Find your nearest store and have a look.

Shouldn't you be voting cold because these disks could be misused for pirated content?

As for me, even though there's no poundstretchers near me, I'm still voting hot because it's still a hot deal =)

So you do have problems? Judging by your double negative you do.

Legally can anyone clarify the difference between keeping a 500 GB PVR box stacked with your favourite films recorded from sky or buying a DVD recorder and keeping the same films on disc ??

Good deal for people that need them, however I would rather pay about 10p extra and get Dual layer ones.

OMG didn't know so many people needed them. They were on HUKD aswell would have though everyone knew about them anyway here is the link:

hotukdeals.com/ite…-1/

BUT THEY ARE **NOT** expired, UKDVDR are STILL selling them, I bought them last week friday, now they have gone up £1, but still at about 28p as disc! I paid £13.09 for 50 delivered, now they are £14.09.

But they are not verbatims though.

lol well done on showing them all up!
However, I need to point out that these are RW disks, the ones you're linking to, although DL, are only write-once disks.

Why didnt you get PC World to price match Poundstretcher then?

Could of got them even cheaper!! (10% of the difference!)

Not quite what everyone expected, but still a stonking price I think for DL. I mean even 2 4.7GB dvds will cost 32p.

However I might get some of these from poundstretcher very good price for DVD-RW and 50 ought to last years.

cheapest Verbatim DVD+R DL i've ever gotten was £1.00

Oh yeah it's definitely a fantastic price for DL-DVD's, I ordered a tub myself when the offer first appeared, just pointing out that comparing DL-DVD-Rs and DVD-RW's is a bit awkward because they have their own uses.

Actually, I think the OP made a typo!

He states that PC world has the same ones on their site for £12.99, however they don't have any spindles of 50 Verbatim DVD-RW's for that price, yet they DO have packs of 50 DVD-Rs and DVD+Rs for £12.99 =\
Not that great a deal after all.

Yeah but in another thread, he voted cold because the item was a swiss army knife and "knives are bad", despite the fact that it was still a good deal.
His logic of "it can be misused, so it must be cold" didn't fly here and I was pointing out the hypocrisy of his own actions.

Look at the comments - they are absolutely awful discs. Loads of people getting refunds.

Any DL disc other than verbatim is a waste of money - even verb DL discs aren't brilliant quality.

If you want a disc to backup things onto then Verbatim or TY single layer discs are the only brands to bother with.

Made in Taiwan verbs are far better than MBI verbs. They are also much better than any generic disc.

Taiyo Yuden (MiJ) branded verbs aren't the best quality TY discs either; if you want the best quality TY discs you need to buy unbranded/Thats or Plextor brands.

Most of these disks in Poundstretcher are made in India so are pretty ****, tbh. The Taiwanese ones are not much better.

If you can find a "made in Japan" on the side, then it is worth getting, otherwise you are being lured by the name. Just wrapping a Verbatim label on them does not make them any better than the standard generic disks you can get anywhere.

Try looking in Sainsburys and Maplins. They are still discounting Verbatim disks, and I have spotted Japanese manufactured disks among their stocks.

I will tell you why.

Because I have read enough on this web site to tell me PC World are out to rip the average
person off wherever possible - my mate picked up a printer cable in poundstretcher for £1
at the same time as I got the discs - they wanted £15 in PC world for the same thing.

I refuse to spend my money in there unless I know they are offering a bargain.

Its almost a point of principle - Almost !! :-D

and for that extra saving I could not be bothered to stand around in there and jump thro
their hoops for a small amount.

Original Poster

what did I miss on my post to make this expired so quickly ??

I did not add anything in the date bits as I have no idea how long they
will stock the discs for.

How do you unexpire it !!

And there was me thinking that a company like Verbatim would have a department that
might be known as " Quality Control" to some !

Just to let you know my discs initialize and record perfectly on my picky little Acoustic Solutions
player and on another Tevion which spits out other brands and a rate of knots Lewis Hamilton
would be happy with.

I have spent to much hard earned cash buying spools of useless brands Verbatim works
for me and others like them so perhaps your equipment was made in India :-D

Verbatim do. Moser Baer India (the factory making verbs in india) don't - they are well known for their incredibly lax QC. You can get one batch that are as good as the taiwan discs and the next batch will almost be as bad as riteks.

Hey Kushty

16p for a RW disc available in + or - format made by a trusted brand is not a good deal !!
you must know of a cashback site where they will pay you 10p a disc !
Can you post it please

No, the problem is that you've labelled them as RW disks when they are just R disks.
RW = ReWritable, can be written to again and again, repeatedly
R = Recordable, can only be written to ONCE.

Original Poster

Thanks for the lesson on knowing what I picked up

I think you came to your own conclusion - which seems to happen alot on this site.

The discs I bought are definitely re-writable - RW is stamped on all 50 I just checked all
of them for you ( just joking ! )

Seriously they are RW discs I bought the + ones

I never attached a link to the PC World site - I may however have given a price for non RW discs by accident.

so can ya vote me hot again !!! :whistling:

My social life is fine thanks - if it takes you more than 90mins to pick up the quality of various media then something is seriously wrong.

If your social life manages to suffer in that 90mins then I'd say new friends are in order. :-~~~~

There is a reason the "know is alls" are know it alls and the idiots stay idiots - it's because the latter don't listen to the advice of others...

If you want to stay ignorant about the quality of your discs then fine. Blindly buy any old shat. I can recommend some Ritek G05's for £4.50 for 50.

checked pc world out again 25 spindle of 4x RW + discs £12.99

Your talking a total load of **** mate tried the discs - they work fine just like any other
Verbatim disc I have ever bought and I've a had a few !

And i am glad you admit you are a know it all - people around your way must love you.

and whats up with your deleted name - got too much of a rep on here dissing deals ??

Its you who is an idiot for not listening to advice - of someone who uses the product often
and has no problems , ego man - go swing.

Jesus dude, what's with all the hostility? If you're wondering why nobody's trying to unexpire this, that's probably why.

Anyway, if you look at MY posts in this thread, I was stating how this was a good deal - I even corrected another user who thought that they had a better deal. It was upon closer inspection of what YOU wrote that lead me to believe that a mistake had been made - either it was a typo in your title or you managed to search for the wrong disks on PC World's website. The latter is what happened, but I figured the former was the most likely case, using the old saying "if it's too good to be true, it probably is".
I apologise for the confusion, but as I said it was based upon your own mistake.

Now, how about being a little less defensive?

Sorry but it seems the only way you can get your deal thro to people its intended for is by going on the defensive - but isnt it best to clear up a query with the poster - rather than assume ?
I have seen good deal posters getting ripped to bits on here on assumptions.

The title of the post was correct, I mentioned PC world & £12.99 - if you check post 35 above you can see that you only get
25 RW discs at 4x speed for that half the amount !! - so tell me what I did wrong - Nothing !
You must know you will get a deal posters back up unless you check your facts
you can wreck good posts this way.

I dont see theres much wrong in answering the critics of your deal or clearing up
misunderstandings if the deal is a good one - even if you have to get bit bolshey.

If you had asked me then I would have answered you, and I really dont post to get into
arguments I post for people to save money like I have done thro using their finds on here.
Thats what the site is all about isn't it ?

but thanks for backing it anyway - I know its a good deal - I just decided to share it with
as many as I can.

And if you check some posts before THAT, you'll see you get 50x DVD-R's for the price you quoted.
So before you started replying to this thread, all we knew was that the deal was for the same product that PC World sells online for £12.99. Those DVD-R's fitted that description perfectly, with the exception that they're DVD-R's and not DVD-RW's.
I didn't mean to question you on your ability to tell them apart, but you obviously made a mistake at SOME point, we just had no idea which point that was - was it a typo in the title, was it you not knowing/getting confused between DVD-RWs and DVD-Rs, or did you look up the wrong product on PC-World's website?
Of those 3 possibilities, 2 of them would indicate an incorrect deal and the remaining one would indicate a certain level of incompetence on your part - so it's no wonder people got confused by the deal. That was what you did wrong and instead of simply posting "whoops, I made a mistake, sorry, but it's definitely DVD-RWs!" you decided to insult just about anyone that questioned it.
Next time, if you make a mistake in a deal, expect to get some flak or people making assumptions to fill in the blanks.

Let it go guys, I think even for DVD-R this is a £7.99 is quite cheap and for DVD-RW even better.

However for permenant write once I like the bigger capacity, so DL for me.
