Cheaper 32gb iphone 3gs on contract @ O2

Cheaper 32gb iphone 3gs on contract @ O2

buy 32gb 3gs on payg 538.30 payg then get the simplicity 02 plan using quidco £100 already posted deal on heres the cost spread out

538.30/12 = 44.86 over 12 months+ £11.66(simplicity) = £56.52 pm ( on a 12 month contract taking cost of phone into account)
538.30/ 24 = 22.43 over 24 months + £11.66(simplicity) = £34.09 pm ( the equivilent if you stayed on a 24 month contract with this)

so a saving of £178.80 so even if you dont get the 100 off quid co its saving of 78 plus your getting 800 min 1600 text and bolt on ( unlimited web usage included) where as you would get 600 min 500 text on there own contract.

also your only subjected to a 12 month contract rather then 24

Cost of 02 direct iphone 32gb contract
(175.19(cost of phone) / 24) + 34.26 = 7.30 + 34.26 = 41.56 pm ( price of Contract of 24 month contract on 02 ect)

its 97.90 cheaper for the 16gb version

Original Poster

plus if you wanted it on the 18 month 02 contract it would be £100 more making the contract

15.24 ( for the phone per month) + 34.26 ( for the contract) = £49.50 a month!!

saving 15.24 a month over the 18 month contract £277.38 if you dont get the quidco its £177.38

i agree with the op here, seems a fairly decent price to pay for an iphone when you consider the average cost for a like for like deal. It may seem and outragous sum of money uprfront but over the course of an 18 month contract you pay just as much anyway....

Original Poster

thank you, this is for anyone thinking of purchasing the 3gs, just because you wouldnt pay £500 for a phone doesnt mean othe people would, this sites about saving money, if i was to purchase the iphone this is the way id go about it

Original Poster

you could take out a 0% credit card and pay back in £35 monthley installments at a push, i mean would that be too wise?

Original Poster

THE ACTUAL PHONE ITSELF COSTS $176 TO MAKE,
I'm sure less people would buy if they knew this!
Better off with the Nokia 5800

Plenty of articles on Engadget about Apple's gross profit margins, they are very good at PR and cashing in on a hyped up niche that most Apple products appeal to.

Nokia 5800 for £150, is the iPhone 4 times better, all depends on what you are willing to spend isn't it? Over two years ago everyone who wanted it jumped on the bandwagon, whether they could afford it or not. However people still want the Kudos of a iPhone.

Also there is a HUKD thread on this showing cost analysis if all the options, most contracts costing over £1000 including outlay over the term of the contract, £1000 for a mobile? In a recession... rofls.

Considering the level of debt, the lack of savings of most people in the UK (especially compared to European average, let alone Asian) the iPhone is the epitome of most people living beyond their means during a recession.

This coming from the guy who took out his 3rd mortgage on his trailer/ caravan....

Have some heat. It's a good for people who were thinking of taking out a contract anyway. The only downside I can see is that the FREE 12 Months Wi-Fi and 3G Internet Access Bolt-on is on the PAYG SIM that came with the iPhone and not on the Simplicity SIM, so it messes up one of the great attractions of buyng the iPhone.

It's a stolen tent actually, with a big hole in it, caravan was repossessed

quidco is not always guaranteed :whistling:

I added heat. Personally wouldn't do it but it does seem the cheapest option hence its hot.

Heat and rep added, a ridiculous price, BUT for those who want to pay for one this saves a lot

If you have an Open code whats the saving there ? :?

Is the unlimited web bolt on, on the simplicity sim compatible with the iphone? The reason im asking is i already have a o2 sim contract but have been told by carphonewarehouse that the bolt on is not compatible with the iphone dont know how true this is.

The other good thing about this deal is that when the new iPhone is released in July 2010, you could ebay this one and still get a good price because they hold their value so well.

Or wait until the exclusivity contract expires to see what happens to the price?

That only for the 3g, not 3gs.

Next year should be exciting hopefully and better for buyers with the merger of Orange and T-Mobile. Hopefully they'll start selling the new iphone out in July 2010.

Carphonewarehouse are talking out of their rear. My Mrs had an old Nokia 6300 on o2 with a simplicity SIM she wanted an iPhone but didn't want to be tied into a lengthy contract or pay the full price for the iPhone. So I purchased the iPhone from a reputable seller on fleabay and she changed her bolt on from free landline calls to unlimited WiFi.

Guess what it works a treat, she get all the benefits that I get so go for it it works!!

Many thanks for the reply i also need to find out if my current o2 sim is a 3g sim otherwise from what info ive gathered from the web is that it wont be compatible with the iphone. I have been with carphonewarehouse from the last 4 years and i dont think its ever been changed. Is there anyway of finding out by just looking at the sim.

This is not true - you can use it on PAYG -look on the O2 website

Just to say - i've got a 32gb iphone, which i bought from CEX with a 12 month warranty. I traded in my n85 and some other stuff to get it. I'm using my Vodafone contract with unlimited txts, unlimited landlines and 900 cross-network minutes - for £25 a month . (18months) - came with the n85 i traded in. -

I think the phones fantastic and justify the extra money with the knowledge that i will probably get a reasonable amount of money back when i decide to change this. At the end of the day - i don't think that O2 contract offers value for money -- and i have to say the Vodafone 3g seems much faster that the 02 3g on my friends. Its always an option to trade in 2 phones and pay the difference -- it really worked out for me - so just thought i would let people know how i wnet about getting it -- before anyone says this is a ridiculous amount of money please understand this is aimed at people who are prepared to pay for the iphone. -

for £30 a month on a 18month contract - 02 will charge you £274.23 and you'll get 75 mins & 125 texts

My advice is if your adventurous enough to jailbreak and unlock the iphone -- take out a contract with another carrier and get a mobile with a value of around £200 (or as high as possible) trade this in (with your existing mobile or pay the difference) - and use the iphone on another network.
I reckon even with the value of the other mobile i traded i still am getting the Iphone for under £30 a month.

Worth noting there is currently no jailbreak or unlock for the iphone 3gs with software version v3.1

If you try to restore the iphone 3gs, you can only restore to v3.1.

CPW also told me I couldn't use the bolt on web with an iPhone, obviously this was bs, I guess they want to con us into getting an iPhone contract. I bought a used, mint boxed, 3g for £200, and use it with the simplicity sim only deal, I get 800 mins and 800 texts, plus unlimited web, for £20 a month. The only thing you don't get, that you get with the iPhone contract, is the free WiFi, you can still use your own WiFi etc, just can't use it at places like McD's etc, but you still have the 3g connection anyway.

Does it make a difference if its the unlimited web or wi-fi? Maybe 1 works but the other doesnt.

£100 cashback deal expired but new quidco deal would still apply to this post if interested for £125 quidco on an O2 £29.38 sim only 12 month contract 1600 mins 3200 texts+bolt on... hotukdeals.com/dea…y-1
