check a car against the data base for mileage mot and insurance write off

a basic free service to check the estimate mileage against what it was at the last mot. when the mot is due. if its was a insurance write off. what tax is on the vehicle or when it expired (good idea how long its being standing) how much the tax is and how old the car is. and where it was registered

Free does not tell you if it's been written off or stolen - payment is required for that info.

ps
you can also check if your car is on the insurance database by going to askmid.com and clicking you own the car for a free check

Doesn't show my old car as a catd so not much use.

Edit looks like it shows catc though

What is the best website to check a person's address? by their name please

Bought a cat d last week but doesn't show as registered cat d. Maybe better to just pay out for a better report

Don't think it estimates against the last MOT mileage. My car has only done 14,500 miles but it estimates 69,000 bit of a difference

It doesn't provide all the services described above as free.

Same for me. Doesn't reflect the mileage based on MOT, seems like a general estimate based on age. Also, cat D status not reflected.

What is the risk level, does not explain?

Doesn't show a known Cat D car as Cat D.

load a crap

Looks like to get anything worthwhile from this you need to pay

Seems like your average car is about risk 62, I came across one that was 89 so might check that one out!

How do you get it free? I'm typing in the reg and car make and it comes up with what payment you want to do to have it....

gov.uk/bro…nce

there you can check if car has mot and how much
Checks when buying a used car... Check registration, MOT, tax, vehicle identification number and other details to help make sure a used car isn't stolen

and if a car is taxed and for how long

Heat added as at the bottom this page also gives any Manufactures recalls.
Worth checking to make sure sales get these done for you before you buy the car

What is there to check if the plate no longer exists?

I put in my old Lupo's plates, it doesn't come up on this, or AskMid. Does that mean its either a Write Off? Or that the Plates have been changed?

Just checked a known cat c and shows nothing
Seems cars that were written off before it was printed on the logbooks dont show
Not sure when they started putting it on the logbooks though ?

you get what you pay for right?
what is the point in risking thousands of pounds by checking the history with a sub standard company..... is it really worth it?
I always use hpicheck.com, yes its more expensive but they are the best in the business by a country mile! £20 is surely worth the peace of mind and the guarantee

Please do not rely on this website. I entered my car reg of my car that was stolen and it gave me a risk 89. Did not tell me it was stolen. You have to pay for this info. Put in the reg of my current car and risk 61.

OP's original post info is wrong. Free does not tell you it's stolen or written off etc.

Just checked cat D didn't show anything tried a couple more cat d's from auto trader none showing seems only cars that are cat C are shown

Seems as risk score isn't based on if the car is stolen, I have tried a few different ones and they range from 61 to 85 depending on size

...and just for fun I checked my first car registration (34 years old) which was scrapped in 1994) and 'hey presto' the car details are there showing an Estimated Avg Mileage of 252,765 miles lol... at least there are no recall issues

need to read the site conditions. it clearly says insurance marker. which is removed if it passes a VIC test. a full HPI check will reveal the status. this is a basic check. anyone buying a car should be paying a full hpi check. otherwise it wont matter what cat you got. if the finance company are towing it away.

common sense prevails to use this a precheck. if things dont check out then save your money doing a HPI check and walk away

or shall we listen to you and campaign and get the site closed down

cheers chap

Then your original post is incorrect where you state

"if its was a insurance write off

Not sure how reliable, did my car that I've owned for 5 1/2 years since new and gave a risk of 59! There's no outstanding finance, never been in a crash or stolen, and only done 59k miles (62k on their estimate so at least this is close!).....

The RAC are a reseller for hpi and are cheaper.

Just used it to check the key data for my new car. Thanks.

I believe stalker.com may be helpful.

I believe if you go part way through the listing for sale process on either Autotrader or Excahnge and mart it shows the write off cat.

says my car is not found
