This deal is expired. Here are some options that might interest you:

I wasn't aware of this and so I thought it may be useful to others too.
Many major banks are allowing to deposit a cheque via their app, for example:

Halifax: halifax.co.uk/abo…ts/
HSBC: hsbc.co.uk/way…ng/
Barclays: barclays.co.uk/hel…es/

Alternatively, you can use a post office if your bank branch is not convenient:

postoffice.co.uk/eve…ing
Community Updates
It is available since 30.10.2017
chequeandcredit.co.uk/che…ing
Cheques processed through the new system clear more quickly. It means that if you pay in a cheque on a weekday (before your bank’s advertised cut-off time) you will be able to withdraw the funds by 23:59 on the next weekday (provided that the cheque has not bounced). However, 23:59 will be the latest timescale that banks and building societies will be working to and many are likely to allow their customers to access their funds earlier than this.

I'll need to cheque this out!!
Nationwide, meanwhile, are still getting to grips with the new-fangled creation that is the "information super highway".

I think they're going to let it grow in popularity before fully committing.
Halifax online banking do too, you just take a pic of the front and back of cheque and put the amount in and it clears really quickly. I used it ofr the first time monday it's a great idea.

It's great the cheques work perfectly.

As I'm a trusted customer I take photo's of cash notes back and front to pay in too ..... of course I must destroy the note once it's registered.

How the f does that work lol
This is so easy to do - Lloyds do it for cheques up to £500 and they clear quicker too(y)

If you do mobile banking there is option to deposit cheques and you take photo of front and back of cheque and deposits to your account. Keep cheque until shows as cleared on your account then if you want you can destroy cheque. Simples!

I will just take a pic of her card

I wonder how I can exploit this...
Makes sense. You could write a cheque on a fish and the bank would cash it.
Lloyds do this too

Paid a cheque in via HSBC app £250. A week later had a letter to say that the cheque could not be verified and my account was debited.
Luckily, I still had the cheque, paid it in over branch counter and it cleared without issue!
Works in Bank of Scotland app too 👌🏼
Went today to deposit a cheque at Halifax, didn't know about this. Thanks for sharing this info.
I’d expect this from the banks I use in about 2022
Used the HSBC one recently, tried it at home and it didn't work so went in branch to get them to debit my account. On the off chance, they asked me if I had online mobile banking, and I said yes. Tried it again whilst I was still in the branch and for some reason, it worked.
Slightly hit and miss but luckily my local branch is only an hour round trip.
This just reminded me of the classic movie Catch Me If You Can and now I'm trying to think of a way to take advantage of it
What the hell is a cheque?????

Although if you go in a branch, and hand in a cheque, it'll clear next day at midnight. They use digital image clearance in branch now.

I've been using online banking with Nationwide since 2001 and I don't think I was an early adopter even then. As the poster above said, they've been taking digital images of cheques for donkey's years. Maybe it's you...

I’m guessing the op is an oap and and got his first smart phone for Xmas
I did not know this, but thank you so much! I've had a cheque waiting to be paid and given it a try on halifax - worked perfectly - says it will clear next working day!! Amazing
I tried the Lloyds one, and only had a 50% success rate - their software doesn't seem to cope with shadows on the cheque - which is difficult to avoid taking a picture under a room light as it needs you to be square on - hence casting the shadow in the wrong place. I had to take the original into the branch.

Hi black night, When did Barclays introduce it? I still can’t see it in my app
Apparently you can order your shopping on the world wide web these days too...
I had to go to my bank to activate mine which was annoying 😫
I get the odd cheque still as I run my own business, LLoyds business app has this feature now. I've tried it on 3 cheques, 2 worked, one wouldn't, so I had to take it in. It takes me an hour to get to the branch and back, which is just wasted time for a small business, so I'm so glad it exists. You have to get the photo EXACT or it will be refused. When it works it's fantastic.
Thanks OP. Will come in handy
Thanks, this was the only reason I was visiting a branch... They can close the front door now!
Can someone sends me some cheques please so i can try this out. Just make them payable to themachman and ideally have a £100 on.
Thank you please
Yorkshire bank have been doing this for years through their B app. I know as British gas sent me a 21p cheque through the post from a closed account.. I was just going to bin it but thought id try the app. Pi$$ easy you just take a photo of the front and back of the cheque and press send!

Show me where on the Nationwide app you can deposit a cheque, the very feature this thread is about.

You can't.

Fail.

Did you have to request it? I don’t have that the option on mine and been waiting.
Got 3 different bank accounts and none of them have this feature.
Aghhhhhhhhh
It's called ICS - image clearing system.

All banks will have it soon buy they take it in turns to implement new things like this. It's phased in to iron out glitches.
Could do with rbs doing this pain in the arse depositing mobiles.co.uk cheques
Coming to Monzo soon

I'm finding it a bit offensive considering the comments here. But no, I'm not oap.
