Chicken breast 1KG £5.99 @ Lidl (XXL Deal range)

1KG chicken breasts, normally £6.99. I find Lidl's chicken to be cut more evenly than ASDA, rather than 4 BIG chicken breasts you get 5-6 even cuts.

You can get Chicken breasts from the butchers for about £1.30 each, so not a great deal.

What is the per kilo price though?

Looks like you get an average of 6 breasts in the pack, by your reckoning that would mount to £7.80. By my reckoning that's more expensive than this deal at LIDL but thanks for your help oO

And they are usually bigger, tastier, less water and not come from a abused, mutant chicken.

It has to say if it has added water. And those tend to only be the frozen ones...

I paid just under £7 for 6 breasts at my local butcher last week.
C cup, not these double AA sizes you get from the supermarket.

local halal type butchers will give you £4 for a kilo, or 10£ for 2.5kilo's

TIL all local butchers have the same prices.

I get 20kg box already trimmed and clean for £65 from my local asian halal butchers.
Works out at £3.25, cant beat that.

I put individual fillets into seperate bags, then deep freeze the lot. Take out a fillet or 2 at a time, let it defrost and its as good as fresh

I prefer my chickens clucking around the garden

I'm in Central London, no such thing as a reasonably priced butcher here.
That said, there's no Lidl's, Asda, or Morrisons close to me either...

I prefer my food to have a quick and as least as painful a death as possible (stunned before death) rather than have them still be alive and conscious as the blood and life slowly drains out of them thanks

If you have a Makro card you can get 5KG of chicken breasts for £20.

stopped buying chicken breast meat now as it is hard to find without it being pumped full of water, sodium and whatever else, even the butchers buy there breast meat in 5kg bags (often from Holland) swimming in goo. When you try and brown this soggy chicken it stews rather than browns
Now i just buy a 2kg hen for around £5 and fillet it myself (takes around 5 minutes), you usually get about 600 to 650g of breast meat from one hen plus your leg and wing portions and a carcase for soup or stock or even a treat for the cats.

Not saying that these will have added water or anything, they might be ok and for what they are then the price is ok so have some heat.

I do hope these aren't horse breasts.

Pumped full of water, not good value really.

I actually think these lidl breasts are really good and tasty! Hot

Shame you won't see this as i'd like to know why myself wanting the animals I eat to at least suffer as little as possible has ANYTHING to do with the BNP?

So basically unless I agree with the "Halal" method then i'm a racist????

You have issues

back to the deal, can anyone who has actually bought these vouch for the quality? I'm wary of the content of chicken when it's so cheap - likely to shrivel on cooking because it is pumped up with water and such...

Lidl's meat is very good quality. It doesn't smell weird like Tescos, doesn't have bone pieces (like Sainsburys sometimes do!) and isn't as grisly as ASDA's. I'm quite certain that they state when it's full of water, and you'll find that's generally frozen chicken breasts. They don't shrink when oven cooked either
